Why We Like The New Balance Fresh Foam X Hierro GTX Mid Trail Running Shoe
When the trail is rocky and the weather unpredictable, we lace into the New Balance Fresh Foam X Hierro GTX Mid Trail Running Shoe. Through rain, hail, and snow, the GORE-TEX membrane keeps our feet dry without causing them to sweat out, while the burly yet supple leather upper resists abrasions and tears. Reinforced with Toe Protect technology, this pair prevents stubs and bruising as we rock hop, and the adaptable platform molds to the terrain to stabilize our strides.

Long Time New Balance Fan
I have worn 8.5 4E New Balance shoes for last 30 years. Probably 10 or 15 in total. The extra wide shoe always fit me well. Have bought running shoes, basketball shoes, and golf shoes over the years. Very disappointed that this pair did not fit. Was squeezing my feet. Were too tight. Baffling given I still own a handful of New Balance running shoes that are 8.5 4E that still fit.

Like this type of shoe.
Like the color. The EE wide was not like other EE’s. It was narrow. I will try other New Balance shoes. Would like to find a Mid height 2E tennis style shoe.

Hiking boots
Comfortable and lightweight. My only disappointment is the high finger pull on the heel. It kinda rubs after wearing them for awhile.

Vibrant laced beasts!
I have been getting ready for a trip to the Redwood Forest, and knew that I needed some good hiking shoes. These Fresh Foam X Hierro shoes have been incredible! They are very lightweight, and yet have a pronounced footprint with great traction. I am very pleased with these shoes, and highly recommend them.

Needed a light hiker
I needed to find a better every day shoe with more foot padding. The slight rearward pitch helps my foot fall due to nerve damage, and the Goretex keeps me dry. True wide sizing for my oddly shaped feet, what's not to love?

Unimpressed
Too narrow! I don't normally wear a wide size, but these shoes are much too narrow. There are pinch points at the widest part of my foot (on both shoes) because the wide part of the shoe is too far forward. I bought these hoping to be able to walk comfortably, and that's definitely not the case!

Great for Fall/Winter trail/nature hikes
These are great for walking on trails! I wanted something for the Fall/Winter time that weren't so heavy, and these were exactly what I hoped for. Super light and comfortable like sneakers, while also being water proof and adaptable to different terrain and taller to keep snow out better. The sole has great grip and seems durable and the Fresh Foam is very comfortable and flexible across all surfaces and terrain. The build quality seems solid as well, I like the round laces and the materials seem good. The initial break-in paid off, the gore-tex material felt a little stiff at first, but softened up some after a few walks, as did the rest of the shoe. In my usual size 11, they fit just right overall. I would say they are on the narrow size overall, kind of remind me of my 2002R's. Def not as wide as a 990v4+ or 993 in the toebox area. So, I would probably consider a wide fit or size up if you have wider feet to ensure a proper fit. My only complaint is the price - I feel they are a tad high, but then again NB is asking nearly the same for the Fresh Foam sneakers, so I guess it's the price we have to pay lol
