This is my first piece of outerwear from Mountain Khakis and it will definitely not be my last. I love this thing, it is the perfect piece for unpredictable fall temps. On cold days paired with a flannel it has been great. The jacket without any layering is also great for those brisk fall mornings heading to work.
It is heavier than I thought from an insulation standpoint which was a great surprise because I feel that increases the length of time I can wear this each season/year. The mix of wool makes it tolerate wet/windy conditions very well, and gives it that rugged feel. The lining is very comfortable and actually breaths really well.
On a recent trip to Jackson where the weather was cold and foggy with a light rain all weekend this was the jacket of choice. I stayed warm and dry and was very comfortable throughout the varying conditions.
The highlight of this jacket for me is the aesthetic. It works great for outside adventures as mentioned above, but it's also a piece that can be dressed up. If you're cruising around town (walking main street etc) or going to the bar this is a solid "do it all" selection.
I have the Malbec color and love the light hit of brown/tan in the checkered pattern. The jacket pairs well with khakis or jeans so you really can't go wrong.
Fit is true to size. I'm an XL in The North Face, Patagonia etc.. so I got the XL in this as well. Fits great, sleeve length is spot on for a taller guy and there is enough arm room to keep you from hulking out of it. One critique I have on the sizing is I wish the jacket had buttons on the sides of the waistband. Would give me the option to slim it up since I don't have a beer gut. I've hide safety pins in there to trim it up until the lady can work her magic with the sewing kit.
Overall this is a diamond in the ruff, Mountain Khakis doesn't try to do anything fancy which is perfect for those of us that are lucky enough to live/play in the mountains.
