For the city or the country.

When it comes to tackling cold and wet winter weather day in and day out, look no further than the Mountain Hardwear Women's Thermacity Insulated Parka to ensure the protection you need. As its name suggests, the Thermacity features an urban-inspired silhouette, making it ideal for casual wear and daily use. However, its technical construction means it's well equipped at maneuvering a day of snowshoeing with the dogs or a short, snowy hike with friends.

More specifically, the Thermacity features Mountain Hardwear's Dry.Q exterior, which provides waterproof protection and breathable performance—meaning precipitation and moisture don't stand a chance. To further your defense, the ThermicAero synthetic insulation touts a strong warmth-to-weight ratio and ensures you stay toasty, even when conditions are more wet than they are dry. And unlike traditional baffling, the No-Sew channels prevent cold spots from zapping core warmth, optimizing on your overall warmth. An elastic bound hood furthers your defense when the winds start to kick things up a notch, and the hand pockets keep necessities like your train pass or gloves close by.

Great coat, perfect length and weight.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 125lbs

This is a perfect winter jacket. I tried on many non-down parka length jackets and I am very happy with this one. I went with a medium, which allows me to wear thicker sweaters/sweatshirts without being too tight and restrictive. Sleeve length was good for me and I have not had any issues with the zipper. I love how lightweight the coat is, but also plenty warm.

    runs small

    • Size Bought: XS
    • Height: 5'3"
    • Weight: 115lbs

the coat is super light, which I like, but it runs super small. I am 5'3 and 115pds. I am an XS and this ran very small on me. I feel that I would have to go up two sizes if I would want to layer anything under it.

    Defective zipper, low collar

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 180lbs

I wanted to love this jacket. i sized up to be able to wear bulky sweaters underneath it...after the bout of NE storms I wanted a very warm versatile jacket... but first off the collar is way too exposed. It doesn't come up high enough and lets in all the wind and below freezing cold. The jacket itself is very warm and I was willing to look past the collar and wear a scarf every time...then after the first wear the zipper is stuck and misaligned. It is going back. For the price point these should not be issues.

Fits me perfectly and is toasty warm

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 145lbs

I have several short, warm winter coats and was looking for a long one with a hood. Due to humane reasons, I wanted to avoid down.

This coat is perfect. We had a number of days below 0 (without a wind chill) and this jacket was awesome. The hood is really big, so it kept my head warm but did not mess up my hair. The coat was super warm.

Tthe coat is a perfect fit. I can easily wear a fleece sweatshirt under the large.

    Warm, but could be improved

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'5"
    • Weight: 130lbs

First - what I liked about this jacket. It didn't make me look crazy puffy while still being nice and warm! The hood was a great fit and the sleeves were a good length, which is sometimes a problem for me. I wore this in about 25 degree weather last winter, and it was my first time wearing a parka like this so I loved how cozy the length was.

My biggest complaint was that the zipper didn't go high on the neck. Luckily I was wearing a scarf, but most jackets go a bit higher there to keep you warmer! Other than that, it just felt a bit constricting overall in the shoulders so it's hard to balance that with a good fit in the body, but I do have wide shoulders so if you have narrower it may not be a problem!

    Just alright

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Size Bought: medium

I've been on the hunt for a decent coat to replace an existing one forever. This coat was almost there but not quite. The neck does not come up very high which I actually like since it doesn't interfere with a scarf but I could see it being problematic. The sizing seems odd, it runs small on the body, but the arms were super long. It just looks sloppy on me. Warmth and color were nice, and length was good for petites.

Nice coat, but no neck protection

I was excited to find a coat that had non-down filling as I will no longer purchase down due to humane reasons. I should have looked closer at the picture because this coat is wide open at the neck--there is no coverage at all. A warm, long coat is supposed to be designed for really cold and windy weather, so it stands to reason that is should zip all the way up to the chin with a warm, soft flaps or T-neck style coverage. I had to return for this reason.

      good overall

Definitely made to hug your curves and fit snugly. Had to return and order size up--too snug to wear a sweater under. Great if you like to wear only your coat and fitted shirt underneath.

My wifes go to coat this winter

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
        • Height: 6'2"
        • Weight: 172lbs

I bought this for my wife and it instantly turned into her go to so far this winter. She loves the fit most of all and the fact she doesn't have to layer because its sooo warm.

        Great jacket

I am a big fan of Mountain Hardwear. I have another down coat from them and it's a staple in my winter wear! I'm 5'10" and although I don't have abnormally long arms, I can sometimes have trouble finding sleeves that are as long as I like them to be. This jacket's sleeves are the perfect length! I have found the TNF has too short of sleeves for me. Mountain Hardwear definitely does not.

I ultimately had to return this item because I ordered the medium, and it was too tight around my hips, and the Large is out of stock.

Pros: comfortable, easy to move around in, down hood, exterior pockets at right height for keeping your hands warm

Cons: No interior pocket, no interior cuff sleeves

        Unanswered Question

Does the hood hang out, always, or does it compress and is zippable near the collar, or is it removeable?
