    Cutting-edge warmth and performance.

You can't argue with the insulating power of down jackets, but they come with two shortcomings: down's inability to maintain warmth when wet and the lack of mobility. The Mountain Hardware Men's StretchDown Jacket was specifically designed to address these two shortcomings. Made with a cutting-edge stretch-welded channel construction, this jacket is able to stretch and move with you, whether you're using it as an outer layer on a cold-weather hike or as a midlayer on a backcountry ski day. In addition to increasing mobility, the welded channel construction traps more warmth than standard stitched-construction jackets, so you stay warmer longer.

To enhance wet-weather performance, the StretchDown Jacket is filled with Mountain Hardware's unique Q.Shield Down. A giant leap forward in down performance, each down fiber is infused with a permanent water repellancy that helps the down maintain loft—and insulating power—even when exposed to moisture, giving you a down jacket fit for any mountain activity.

    • A state-of-the-art down jacket for any mountain activity
    • Dynamic stretch knit fabric offers increased mobility
    • Q.Shield Down resists heat-robbing moisture
    • Welded-construction eliminates cold spots from stitching
    • High neck for increased coverage
    • Zippered pockets keep essentials secure
    • Standard fit leaves room for extra layers
    • Item #MHW00RG

    Love it, great fit!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 6'2"
    • Weight: 200lbs

When it first arrived, I was concerned because it felt so light. I bought this for a winter coat, and it felt like something I would slap on in the fall weather over a long sleeve shirt.

However, that concern was alleviated today, it was ~36 degrees, and I had to unzip it a little to let some heat out the neck. It's very light, but don't let that fool you. It's nice and warm.

It's a great look, highly recommend this coat!

    STRETCH!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: L
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 190lbs

I was so impressed when I first put this jacket on last year. Still to this day, I always stretch my arms out as far as possible just to test the stretch in the jacket. I am still impressed every time I put it on. I take this jacket any time I will be sitting still for a little bit longer, or it is too cold for just the Ghost Whisperer. I wear this jacket as a main jacket around town as well and it still keeps me plenty warm.

    Range of Motion!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 140lbs

The Stretchdown is a great piece of equipment. It allows both an athletic fit and full range of motion. Because of the fit it also layers very easily. I used this piece during some chilly casual fall nights here in Utah. I look forward to using this jacket climbing and skiing, the range of motion seems like it would perform extremely well in both of those conditions. Stay tuned for an updated review.

Great jacket with a few short comings

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 6'1"
    • Weight: 170lbs

I wear this on my daily commute in PA and out west when skiing under an MH Dragon's Back. On the daily commute its great to about mid 20s then you need something a little more. It does shed water nicely however it doesn't cut wind too much. The stretch down fabric is different than your normal down jacket fabric. It's almost as if its a bit sticky and fuzz seems to cling to it. I haven't experienced much, if any, down loss; just a few really tiny strands here and there. On fit, I'm 6'1", 170 tall and lean. The length is great however with a 32" waist the jacket is tight around the waist (right were the zipper meets) and just a bit through the belly and chest. (and my chest is only 36"). This is great for layering, but stand alone kind of gives you a belly paunch. Overall totally happy with it, just wish it'd cut the wind a bit better.

    Warm, great fit

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 6'2"
    • Weight: 230lbs

XL fits me perfect, and I love how the stretchdown has a bit of "give" when I'm moving. Used it snowshoeing several times and love this jacket. Warm with only a long sleeve thermal underneath (15 degree F outside temp). Like the matte black color...not shiny or flashy. Zips to collar and is comfortable around the neck.

    A Stretch of Possibilities

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 6'2"
    • Weight: 178lbs

This jacket is one of those pieces that modernizes a classic piece of outdoor clothing and adds something unique, which makes the item even better than the original. This jacket has stretch material woven into the fabric; making the jacket stretch with you for your full range of motion. Than the fabric is also water resistant, with the feel of the material being supply yet resistant; and the down itself is treated with DWR so it drys out even faster if wet. I have used this jacket in a variety of activities and every time it has either kept me warm or to warm. This is one of my favorite down jackets I have ever worn and the quality on it is exceptional.

Sounds good, but comes up SHort

    • Size Bought: medium
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 180lbs

Pros: The jacket does have a good stretch to it, and it's very comfortable. It fits well and keeps you warm.

Cons: Excessive down loss. I only got to wear this jacket 4-5 times but the down was coming out everywhere. It was coming out all too easily through the inner and outer material. I had to shake myself off every time i wore it. Also, the inner material around the neck and other spots as well became very discolored. It would seem the material has some sort of reaction to the skin making it look dirty and discolored.

    Great Jacket

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 220lbs

This is a great jacket. I gave it as a gift to my dad and after trying it on I think I am going to have to buy one for myself. The stretch on this is incredible. It makes you feel like you can do any winter activity while still being warm and not being limited. High quality fabric and down, compresses and relofts very well. The sleeves and neck block out any drafts so it traps your heat in amazingly. and the matte color looks really nice. Being someone who is very picky about their jackets I would definitely recommend this one and I have to say mountain hardwear did a great job.

    mountain hardwear jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: medium
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 155lbs

this jacket has a 750 Q fill the north face has 700 fill by far a better jacket if you want to stay warm go north face nuptse

    Nice jacket

    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 170lbs

The cold weather isn't here yet, but this seems like the top quality I'd expect from MH. Based on other comments, I bought a Med; returned it for a large. I'm always right on the fence between the two sizes. The Med was too small through the shoulder and the arm holes were too small. The difference between a Med and L is pretty significant, but I need the L to allow for any layering underneath. I wish they had a Medium-and-a-half. Two huge, but un-zippered pockets inside, 3 zippered pocket outside with plenty of room.

    Can't Touch This

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large but should have got a Medium
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 165lbs

That is what I say when people want my jacket.
Mine was a gift and it was a little big (large) but I can't give it up, I love it so much. The weight is amazing, perfect for the cold mornings and evenings, but not too much so you are sweating like crazy when you walk up the street. The breathability is insane, you could ski tour a super crisp morning in this. I was super impressed too as the down is water repellent, so it wont get soggy and lose warmth when the going gets damp. And really, do I need to say anything more than "stretch?"

    Game Changing

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 125lbs

This jacket is absolutely game changing. Imagine the comfort and soft feel your favorite hoodie has combined with incredible warmth of 750-fill down. What more could you possibly ask for in a down jacket? How about the fact that they eliminated seems and wend to welded baffles instead! Now you are probably wondering why they did this...well with normal stitched seems it limits the ability of the fabric to stretch to its max potential. Now this technology allows you to move freely like a child on a jungle gym.

Amazing Stretch for a Down Jacket!

The second I got the Mountain Hardwear Stretch Down Jacket, I knew it was going to be one of, if not my absolute favorite down jacket. Right away, the stretch is noticeable - I have never felt anything quite like it, as it truly moves with your body giving you virtually unrestricted movement. It is warm, comfortable and looks great with the matte fabric - a nice departure from the pack by Mountain Hardwear. I would highly recommend this jacket for anyone looking for a new versatile down jacket this winter.

I bought this jacket for my husband and father in law as gifts to gear up for the Winter here in Park City and they LOVE them. The StretchDown from Mountain Hardwear is awesome and so comfortable (they say). My husband claims it's his new favorite jacket. I plan to buy one for myself in women's. I bought them the navy and light grey color and they're awesome. Definitely a must-have for men and women!

    Unanswered Question

How does this rate in warmth to Patagonia's down sweater? For me, that jacket is good to about 30F. WHat's your experience with this one?
