An everyday wind breaker, works well. The inside is a soft mesh and is very comfortable, the exterior has a softer feel and is not as noisy as most wind breakers.

Too Small
Good Jacket. It, unfortunately is too small for me. I normally wear a large in jackets and shirts, but this hoodie was too tight on me. I had to return the order, and purchase a size XL.

Wind cutting softshell that performs
Overall Rating: 4/5 Fit Rating: 3 /5 MAKE SURE TO SIZE DOWN! I normally wear a Men’s L in most jackets and I had to size down to a M. Pros: - Gore-Tex Infinium cuts wind well - Convenient chest pocket design - Waist cinch to adjust size - Hood fits helmet Cons: - Baggy fit Ideal Use Case: - Skiing - Ice climbing - Backpacking - Mountaineering The Mtn Tech/2 hoody is a softshell that delivers with high tech Gore-Tex Infinium fabric that cuts wind and reflects your own body heat while you move. I tested out the Mtn Tech/2 on cold ski tours on the Muir Snowfield in Rainier National Park, where clouds socked us in and temperatures dipped down into the single digits. The softshell fabric of the Mtn Tech/2 repels snow, cuts wind, and retains your body heat while active to keep you moving but not sweating from overheating. The Mtn/Tech 2 is on the heavier side for a soft shell layer, at 18 oz., but for ski tours or ice climbs where weight is not a huge factor it is a highly technical softshell layer that performs well. The highlight of the Mtn Tech/2 is how well it cuts wind and reflects your body heat. Even in biting 20+ mph winds, the Mtn Tech/2’s Gore-Tex Infinium material holds its own; I hardly noticed the cold while touring, with a baselayer and the Mtn Tech/2 on as my layering system. The Mtn Tech/2 is on the baggier side, so make sure to size down from your normal size. I had to exchange from a L to a M to make the fit tapered enough to fit my frame.

Top of the Mid Layers
Versatile, comfortable, and utilitarian—all in one jacket. I'm no retail product line manager, but Mountain Hardwear might want to consider reducing its mid-layer selection after this piece gains traction. I work as a hiking and adventure travel guide in the Tahoe and larger Sierra Nevada region and found this jacket to be an ideal cover for the widespread temperature swings we experience come fall. But, I can't wait to get this into the deep stuff in a couple of months. I want mid-layers to multi-function. Wind. Moisture. Breathability. But, it can't be overly cumbersome from a warmth or weight concern, either. This coat hits that balance when deployed as a wind-beater or cold-stopper at elevation or at first light. It was used in cool, shaded forest hikes in the Desolation Wilderness and on high windy cross-peak mountain bike rides. While splitboarding season remains a few weeks out, I have no doubt this will be my go-to layer for the uphill, because GORE-TEX's Infinium is a seriously well-designed fabric technology for active pursuits. From pockets to fit to its just-right stretch, the pros are many, including the inch-wide zipper guard. Some buyers may fret over a lack of packable pocket (an overrated feature in general) or not being a total rain shell, but remember, that's not its intent. Yet, it does take on precipitation quite competitively, as being water-resistant is quite often enough. If you're looking for a shoulder-season champion for windy crag days or ridge runs before the white stuff hits, give this coat a chance. Ski guides should find it ideal for warm skins and transitions, and I know hiking guides will dig it for meal prep and pre-dawn chores around the campsite. It's not the lightest at just over a pound, but super-weight conscious adventurers tend to bypass mid-layers, anyway. Lastly, while I tend to not care about the fashion aspects of technical gear, in all black, this coat looks awesome. If you're ever in an office again, wear with confidence.

Daily Driver
I work as a Law Enforcement Ranger in the Rocky Mountains, and I need my gear to be comfortable enough to wear all day long. I can’t say enough good things about the Mtn. Tech/2 Hoody. It’s cozy, it’s Gore-Tex windstopper makes it windproof and water resistant, it looks good, and it’s warm. This is the ideal shoulder season jacket. It’s not warm enough for the winter, and it will be too warm on warm summer days, but it’s one of those jackets you find yourself wearing all day long during the fall or the spring. I’m 6’ 2” and weigh 180 pounds and the large fits me perfectly. This jacket fits in to so many aspects of my life it’s hard to list them all. If it’s 50 degrees out during my morning bike commute to work I grab this jacket. If it’s drizzling out and I’m driving to a work call, I throw this jacket on. If I’m spending all day woodworking in the garage, I grab this jacket. In short, I wear this jacket almost every day. Aside from hot summer days or torrential downpours, it’s hard for me to imagine a time when I wouldn’t want to be wearing the Mtn. Tech/2 Hoody. One thing I would change about the Mtn. Tech/2 Hoody is I would make the zippers slightly tougher. They haven’t failed yet, but they do seem a little flimsy, and I would hate for this jacket to give out at the zipper! This jacket is an easy sell if you like the way it looks. I think this jacket looks great and I find myself reaching for it on just about every occasion.

Great at keeping the chill off.
I live and breathe in softshell garments here in the Cascades working during the summer as a mountaineering guide. I am constantly moving and need the breathability of a softshell yet require more weather protection when the weather turns south without having to constantly change layers. The Mtn. Tech/2 Hoody, for the most part fits the bill for how I need a softshell to perform. Unfortunately, some features were not compatible with my needs and desires in a "do it all" piece for the mountain adventures I tend to embark on. After using the Mtn. Tech/2 Hoody on a 5 day backpacking trip with lots of rain this October, I found the fit to be true to size, but runs a bit big (for me) through the middle of the torso. It isn't roomy enough in the sleeves to accommodate thick layers, but works well as a stand alone piece in windy conditions. I really liked the length of the sleeves as they were long enough to not creep up when reaching overhead, but not so long that my hands were swallowed. I would have liked to see the hood be helmet compatible and the hand pockets be backpack and harness compatible for use alpine climbing or mountaineering endeavors. Additionally, the collar does not go up high enough to be effective covering my face in cold winds. The Mtn. Tech/2 Hoody would be great for someone who is not embarking on a multi day adventure where weather protection and layering is paramount. I am more inclined to use this jacket as an "in town" jacket or on my car camping adventures as it is sharp looking, great at stopping the wind to keep the chill off due to the Gore-Tex Windstopper technology. Overall, I really want to like the Mtn. Tech/2 Hoody. Unfortunately, for my needs, I will use other softshell jackets in the mountains and save this one for blustery urban hiking, commuting and car camping.
