Just right.

Bundle up in the perfect amount of toasty goodness with the Mountain Hardwear Firefall Jacket for men. With targeted insulation where you need it, the Firefall provides warmth that isn't overkill, so you can stay comfortable from first chair to last lap. The outer shell repels the elements and harsh, icy winds, thanks to waterproof 70D and 160D nylon. Strategically paneling the 160D nylon in areas that see abuse from skis over the shoulder and stray branches, the jacket is able to save on weight and maintain a comfortable range of motion, so you don't feel restricted when breaking trail to skin up the mountain, or throwing down on a backcountry booter.

Underneath the shell you'll find pockets of Thermal.Q insulation to keep key locations warm that are prone to getting a bit chilly. Thermal.Q traps heat similarly to down, but unlike down it manages to keep warm when wet, wick away sweat, and dry quickly, making for easier long term maintenance and increased comfort. Extra-long underarm zips also provide a perfect spot for heat and perspiration to escape when you get a bit warm, so you can stay dry inside when you're working for your turns.

  • Stay comfortable from first chair to last lap
  • Tough nylon shell repels water and wind
  • Water stays outside thanks to sealed seams
  • Pockets of Thermal.Q insulation keep you toasty
  • Extra-long underarm zips offer a heat escape
  • RECCO technology helps with avalanche safety
  • Pockets galore for your essentials and snacks

Great initial impression

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Large
  • Height: 6'0"
  • Weight: 175lbs

I just received the size large after returning the size medium because it was too small in the shoulders and sleeve length for my 6'0, 175 lbs body. Size up, especially if you are tall. Have not had it in the elements yet. Can't wait to get it on the mountain, but initial impressions are outstanding.

Great Hardshell for Skiing

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large
  • Height: 6'1"
  • Weight: 185lbs

A number of things makes this a great shell. The hood zips off which is really nice for sunny days. The collar is quite tall so it covers my face up to my lower lip when zipped up all the way. The sleeves are a perfect length and wide enough to fit over my different glove types. No unnecessary flaps on zippers that would just flap in the wind. Haven't used the second of 2 sleeve pockets but I do always use one of them for my pass. Won't buy a jacket with a sleeve pocket down by the wrist. Best place to put a pass with an RF chip. Good freedom of movement, long enough but not too long.

Love Your Customer Service!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XXL
  • Height: 6'0"
  • Weight: 235lbs

I had to return my XL Fire Fall Jacket for an XXL. The return was smooth and
I got it out the next day after your printing label was downloaded. Your online Gearhead Chat got me all the information I needed to make this return successful. My new jacket arrived within two days after you sent me word that my return had arrived. Thanks for exemplary Customer Service. I send my love to all of you on Valentine's Day!

Jacket has been worn several times now as fickle Southern weather just can't make up its mind. Sealing out air at cuff is better than in old model and warmth of protective collar flap is more noticeable. Hood is large enough for my ski helmet and zip pockets in small places hold ID, keys, gum and change. Length is perfect and fit is comfortable for me, a hefty 235 lbs. Color helps my wife spot me easily in a clutch of people. Interior pockets are roomy enough to store the detachable hood when needed.

Unanswered Question

Hello, we are going skiing at Big Sky Montana in January, and I was wondering if this jacket would be warm enough? If not, what would you recommend?
