Why We Like The Mountain Hardwear Compressor Alpine Pant

We turn to the Mountain Hardwear Compressor Alpine Pants for their ideal performance during cold tent-bound spells and acclimatization days in base camp, and can be worn when we're on the move or while belaying as well. These Thermal.Q-insulated pants protect your legs from the harsh cold of high-altitude peaks, and they pack down easily. Full side zippers make it easy to get in and out of them with boots on, and the reinforced seat and knees boost durability.

Great Ski Pants

Used for the first time yesterday in fairly warm spring skiing conditions. They are very comfortable and accomplished their task.

Awesome addition for coaching cross country skiing.

They are everything I wanted for coaching at cross country ski races. The fill zip allows me to pop them on and off without taking my boots off as I am testing skis. They are completely windproof and kept me warm while standing around in single digit (Fahrenheit) temperatures. They are crazy warm, but can be vented for easy adjusting to changing temperature/wind condition. I found the fit to be consistent with the size chart. I'm 5'8"/150lb and the M is a perfect fit - even over my other ski clothes.

They run very small, but are warm and easy to get on and off over boots.

Great as a shell if you’re not sure on the weather, however they run very small. It was a little difficult to move comfortably in them. I think they’re better to use if you’re stopped and taking a break, with the full zip legs they’re easy to get in and off over boots.

Full leg zippers are excellent feature. Right amount of warmth, seem very durable, excellent fit.

My primary need was a full zip pant to be able to pull on over winter boots without taking the boots off. (Though I would love some warmer and more compressible down pants, most do not have a full zip. I tried out the Mountain Hardware Ghost Whisperer down pant, and with a just below the knee leg zip height, they could slide over shoes but not come even close for boots.) The full leg zippers are very smooth and do not snag at all. The pictures made these pants look baggier, but they aren't actually super baggy (i.e. they look better than I thought they would). Just enough. Not tight at all and fit comfortably over my standard winter hiking leg cover of long underwear and a thin nylon hiking pant. The insulation is moderate, definitely not the amount or loft of a down pant, but I think just the right amount. They stuff easily into the provided stuff sack. If space is a premium in your pack, you could get a smaller stuff sack and they would still fit. The pant cuff has two snaps/buttons on it so you can tighten down the cuff a bit if you want. The two side pockets are of sufficient size, not small, not super big. It would be nice if they added a single zip back pocket. One other addition that could be good would be belt loops. The velcro side adjustments work fine to tighten down the pant if the waist is too loose, but I like having a small nylon belt to just hold things up better sometimes. Size-wise, I am 5'11", 160lbs, 32waist, 32/33 inseam. I opted for the medium regulars. They fit great. I almost wish I had gotten the long (which is 34" inseam instead of the regular's 32"). The length is fine, but if you like your cuff sitting a lot lower on your boot and are around a 32" inseam, I'd recommend the long. When I squat down they come up quite a bit at the ankle. I typically wear calf-height gaiters when winter hiking so pulling these pants on over my hiking pant and gaiter makes it not an issue, but just know that the 32" inseam is an accurate size. Sound - if you're wanting to silently go through the woods, these pants won't do it for you. They're not super loud or anything, but they definitely have a bit of that snow pant "swoosh swoosh". I would get them again.

Great!

Seems great! Fits awesome and packs down nicely enough. I love that it zips all the way so you can shed layers with boots on. Ill be taking this to Aconcagua in Jan.
