My favourite shoe

This is about my fourth pair of Trail Gloves going back to the original model. Each model just seems to get more comfortable.

Trail Glove 7 comfort and performance

The Trail Glove 7 is the perfect hiking shoe for warm weather outings on any terrain. Just hiked Diamond Head Summit Trail in Honolulu, Hi. Path was a mix of pavement, dirt and stone steps. Really pleased with the cushion feel and the traction even on the damp surface of a pop up shower. Love the lighter weight.

Great feel with the ground

Spent a lot of time in these shoes. Seriously different and take getting used to. They feel completely different than any of my other shoes. These shoes work different muscles and you don't want to spend too much time in them without breaking in your feet and legs. I walked over 5 miles once I got used to them with no issues. You can really "feel" the terrain under your feet and I can't wait to go scaling some rocks on a hike!

Perfect shoe

These are the first pair of shoes that allow me to feel my natural foot and be able to walk on pavement without pain. Makes my feet and back happy. Just like my moccasins I wear indoors.

Planned obsolescence?

I’ve owned at least a dozen pairs of trail gloves from the third gen on. It is my go to running shoe and I always end up returning to it. I appreciate the feel of the 7 from the 6 as it felt like there was more room in the toe box. However, I am profoundly disappointed about the tred and the log of the tread. The tread remains me of the trail glove 4 which seemed to grade off in the trails like a soft cheese. The lug on the trail glove 7 is 2.5 mm from 3mm on the model 6 (that’s a 15 percent reduction). Between those two alterations I for the first time tried a competitor. Unfortunately I missed the comfort and minimal, but helpful cushion/stack height of the 7. Now, I’m at a crossroads of weather or not to go with another competitor or buy 7’s that become obsolete too quickly. Please know that if the 7’s had the lug and tread of the 6 it would be a 5 star shoe. It might last longer but people would buy more pairs of them rather than branching out.

Awesome Shoe for Road or Trail

Very comfortable shoes! I have owned several pairs of vapor and trail glove shoes and these are my favorites so far. I’ve only put 13 miles in them and nothing is falling apart. I use these more for road/pavement running and they grip pretty well on dry surfaces. They appear to be well made and the lacing is really good and supportive. I wish I could get these in a 12.5, but the 13 fits well. I’m very impressed with them!

Light, comfortable, overall good

Bottoms wear way too quickly. I've owned 4-7, the 7s are the most comfortable since the 4s but they just simply wear too quickly. I've bought two pairs of them and just felt disappointed they wear so quickly. Really hoping the 8s have a better bottom material.

Will be purchasing again.

Trail Glove 7 is my first pair of Merrell’s and I will be purchasing again. I use them primarily as disc golf shoes for traversing off-trail through the terrain when I shank a throw/putt. I’ve only taken them out a handful of times so far but am already impressed with their durability, breathability, and responsiveness. This is my first pair of shoes within the “barefoot” family and with the little experience I have now would say that are a great introduction. Of note, I’m a size 9 in men’s and initially ordered a 9 & 9.5 just in case, as I read that they run small…but had to exchange for a size 8.5 - definitely seemed to run big on me (and even this size is SLIGHTLY too big - but happy enough to make them work!).

Excellent shoe.

Excellent shoe. Instant feelgood fit. Well named as glove. Time will tell as far as wear is concerned. No problems after 7.5 mile hike with 2,000 climbing.
