Why We Like The Merrell Rogue Hiker Mid GTX Boot

The new Merrell Rogue Hiker Mid GTX Boot is a lightweight backpacking boot that lets us fly down the trail without getting weighed down. It's built on the last of the Agility Peak trail running shoe and paired with Float Pro Foam for lightweight comfort as we hike fast with a light pack. The ballistic mesh uppers shave some grams while the rock plate offers some support and the mid-cut ankle collars work with the GORE-TEX waterproofing to help us slog through puddles and mud while keeping our feet dry and happy. For peak performance, the Rogue also features Vibram Megagrip outsoles with 5mm lugs to dig into dirt, mud, snow, and scree for excellent footing on our thru-hike or weekend backpacking trip.

Great traction and stability for older hikers

I bought these in order to get more cushioning and ankle support while hiking steep, rocky, rooted up trails in the Cascades. The orange color was also an attraction, as well. Although I was at first a bit concerned that the wide heel on these would hang up in tight trails, that concern turned out to be unfounded, and the wider, running-shoe-like heel actually provides additional support and balance on sketchy terrain. They were presumably designed as a heavier weight boot for backpacking - so far I haven't tried them with that, but they work fine with my 20-lb. day pack. At 70 years old, I'm not as spry as I was at 30, and any footwear feature I can get to help protect my knees and add traction and stability is welcomed - and these Rogue Hikers do very well.

I have always bought Merrell. Comfortable out of the box. They hold up to my abuse, and they look amazing.

Havasupi trails approved by me

Put 30 miles on them after a short break in Hiking to Havasupi falls and down canyon lived support and light weight comfort. Will buy more.

Great boots

Took them on a 7 mile hike to snow lake in Washington state, they were fantastic, went over snow, rocks and several water crossings, great boot so far!!

Rock solid rover!

Best hiking boots ever! I have the gortex orange rogue hikers. The float tech padding truly feel like your floating over the earth. Ankles are super supportive, toe box has amble room for movement.

Better invest in some extra shoelaces!

Whoever invented these boot’s certainly has investments in a shoelace company!! The neon green metal loop for the midsection just tears the laces up and within a week have had to replace the laces. Other than that horrible design flaw the boots are super lightweight and comfortable and true to size.

Light

Mud proof and good ankle support. Lighter than most comparable products from other manufacturers.

Almost great, yet completely useless.

Boots are light and comfortable on the sole of the foot. Yet the metal eyelets on the top (there are 2 on each side of the shoe) that dig into the ankle even when loosely tied. This made the shoes unwearable (I couldn't even make it out of the house with them on). More padding behind those would help a ton.

Merrell missed on this one

I am a true believer in Merrell! My wife and I have 7 pairs and now our kids and grandkids are wearing them. I bought these in March for an upcoming trip to Alaska, I wanted a new pair of Gortex boots to break in, After hiking a few miles on numerous hikes my feet hurt so bad I usually turn back. I am not a small guy, 6'-4" 250 pounds. They don't support my weight like my Moab's (shoe or boot) do. The ankle support is missing in these boots, they want to roll easily and seem narrow in the instep to the toe area. You can feel every root and rock underfoot and it doesn't feel good. I will probably purchase a new pair of Moab's
