Why We Like The Merrell Moab Speed 2 Thermo Mid WP Boot
To keep our toes cozy dry and our feet feeling light when trekking snow and ice covered trails, we lace into Merrell's Moab Speed 2 Thermo Mid WP Boot. The tall collar, gusseted tongue, built-in rock plate, and burly toe cap fights off trail debris and hidden rocks, while the heat-trapping fill and waterproof membrane shield us from the cold and the wet. Armor aside, the cushy midsole foam and biting outsole rubber stave off fatigue-causing distance and slips, affording us the energy to explore more.

insulated and dry, but not comfortable at all.
I bought these back in December mostly for walking the dogs. I wanted something that would be warm and could handle an inch or two of snow but be lighter weight than my snow boots. These are lighter and do keep my feet warm, but they are not comfortable at all. The soles are very hard and stiff and provide next to no cushioning or support and with narrow soles, not much stability on your ankles. I don't think I could wear these for much more than the 20 minutes that I walk the dogs. I was hoping they would break in more, but they haven't. Size probably runs true, I bought 11.5. Normally I wear 11 and I couldn't find these at a local shoes store, but I did find some other Merrell Moab that 11.5 was a better fit but these feel just a little loose. I kept the size as it will allow for thicker socks if I'm going to be out for a longer amount of time.

Setting the bar for the Hiking world of Footwear.
So I just got my Moab Speed 2 Thermo mids today and am absolutely happy with them. This is my 2nd pair of Merrell and like with the first pair they are amazingly comfortable, and fitting. Shoe size fits perfectly for my feet feels like I'm walking on air right now. I live on Kodiak Island Alaska so these shoes will definitely get to do what they are designed to do. I can safely say that for me and my family we have found our footwear relationship in Merrell. Thank you for designing and making one of the best hiking shoes in the world in my opinion. They will see many miles of trail this year.

Comfortable and warm
So far, I really like these boots. They’re very comfortable and warm. I’ve worn them to two winter outings at Kentucky Kingdom.

Lace hooks popped out
Bought these a while ago, but have only worn them a few times under light conditions. Today the second lace hook popped out of the same shoe when I was lacing up. Astoundingly poor quality for a respected brand like Merrill. I still have both pieces of the hook and it is a clear manufacturing issue: the rivets just popped out. I like the boots otherwise, but tough to use if you can’t lace them.

Great boots, just not at first!
I purchased these on line, after reviewing. Upon first fit, was very disappointed. Felt as if my forefeet/toes were in a vice. No big deal I thought, They are brand new-will break in. Also the arch and insole didn't feel as if anyone had thought about how we are going to use these. So, remember these are waterproof? They are! I was worried about sweat build up, and did have some the first few times I worked them, but rapidly dry out from the inside. No water in from out, in rain/mud/slush/snow. Tread is awesome, not best for ice, but just about everything else. My only complaint, wish there was more grip in the ankles. Not on the sole, inside the boot itself. Tend to, when crossing trees or traversing- heel comes up some. The laces are very thin and smooth, will be upgrading those. All in all. First non-leather upper I've purchased. Very pleased- anticipate a few years of these on my feet! Waterproof, great grip, and are conforming to my feet the more I push them. I would buy these again!

Good, but could be better
I'm not sure what is going on with Merrell, but it seems that I continue to be disappointed by the lack of thinking that goes into there products. For the price of this boot, I would think it would come with nicer features/hardware. Metal hardware? For the last two lacing placements and they suck. On other brands of boots with this price point, it's metal hardware the entire boot. This has nylon webbing for the lacing on the lower foot which may or may not fail. And on similar boots the hardware will lock the laces on the lower foot before lacing the ankle, not these. And the hardware is so stream lined that most times it catches on the back instead of where it is supposed to sit. I purchased this boot online because of the reviews. It has been warm, and I haven't taken any spills on ice like I do with my hard soled work boots or summer hikers. Just really disappointed in how Merrell is not keeping up as the brand I loved before.
