When our fall hike turns into a scramble, and the scramble turns into a climb, we're glad to have the Marmot ROM Jacket on our backs. The breathable soft shell moves with us and helps to regulate heat via side vents, all while keeping icy gusts of wind from ruining our day in the mountains. Four total pockets provide plenty of space to stash our phone, a snack, and the hastily jotted-down way-finding notes we left ourselves while we still had service.

Nice update for me
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Size Bought:
- XL
I have a 20+ year old Marmot Windstopper softshell that finally needed replacing. It still kicking as a backyard or bramble jacket, but the Windstopper is starting to delaminate in places, and it doesn't look very nice as a city jacket anymore. I also wanted something that breathed a bit more on its own (and not rely on the pit zips), had less insulation, and could act as a quasi-rain jacket for travel. I think this will do the trick nicely. The Infinium parts are nice and lightweight, with good beading so far, the body is very nice and breathable and resisted moisture pretty well. It doesn't feel as bulletproof as my old softshell, but it also weight half as much. Over the years, sizing/shaping has definitely changed and Marmot isn't immune. I find a lot of outdoor gear to be tighter across the shoulders and upper back than in the past, with the body getting looser. Patagonia did this as well. I am quite barrel chested (and barrel bellied admittedly) and I had to size up to an XL to get proper range of movement across my back. And even though I have a belly, the body is now quite billowy. I'm OK with this for my use case, but someone who uses this more outdoors might find the fit very weird unless they have narrower shoulders. And I don't think anyone can review this jacket without mentioning the comically large hood. I think a motorcycle helmet could fit under it. It was almost a deal breaker for me, but the rest of the jacket was great for my use. I haven't tested it in driving wind or rain, so as long as it stays secure, I am OK with the excess fabric. All in all, expecially on sale, this is a really nice jacket.

Exactly what I was looking for.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Fit and flex are great. Haven't had it out in inclement weather yet, but overall I am satisfied.

Wanted To Like Jacket
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
Material feels good from the outside. However, the seam on the arms is rough if you are not wearing an inner fleece or long sleeve, and it is ultimately quite an uncomfortable jacket. Fit is neither athletic nor casual - baggy core but thin arms.

Great jacket
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Light but warm enough. Great against the wind. I would recommend this jacket.

Pacific Northwest Weather Jacket
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my go-to weight of jacket for all sorts of outdoor activities when the weather is above freezing from bicycling, to golf, and even ice skating at the indoor rink. I wore a similar Salomon jacket to death and was panicked to find a replacement. The combination water-proof top and soft-shell bottom is an interesting combination that seems to work quite well.

Excellent for wind, but not that comfortable
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I like the blue color and it does block the wind well. Can't say that the material feels too great against the skin. If it's cold, a layer underneath makes one forget the rough inner texture, but you should be comfortable without it.

New favorite
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great on its own or for layering. No vent zips, but it doesn’t claim to have any. Website suggested medium, glad I went with the large.

Not for me. I am not a fan of stretch fabrics in j
I was excited to order this rain jacket. Once received I was not a fan of the fabric. I am sure it's waterproof but I prefer more of a nylon rather than recycled polyester and gore tex. Also the arms are very long I am a 33" arm inseam and the XL was about 36.
