From easy trails to serious summits.

The Marmot Pillar Softshell Pant takes on intense alpine ascents and ski tours as well as casual hikes and camps. Its M3 Softshell fabric is Marmot's most breathable softshell for high aerobics, and it's still highly water repellent for rainy days in the outdoors. The Pillar's athletic fit includes a gusseted crotch and articulated knees for uninhibited mobility. Marmot also designed this pant with an elasticized waist for a secure fit, reinforcements for long-lasting durability, and ankle zippers for easy on-and-off.

    No confidence

    • Size Bought: small

Up front - I have no confidence that these pants will do the job. They are ultra thin and there is no reinforcement around the knees - regardless of whats advertised - the black material across the knees is a single layer almost identical to the rest of the pant. Slim fitting - yes and these might work well with a couple layers of polartec fleece underneath but without I wouldn't be caught in any inclement weather.

awesome shape, but thin not for cold

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I like this pants very much with awesome shape and fit my legs very well. but it is pity not to thicker to protect me to the cold and moisture winter around -5 to 5 degree.
when I wear them, I wear Arcteryx lining pants inside. It still feels cold and not so wind-protection.

    Perfect fit, moves very well

Not tight enough to restrict motion (even with baselayers underneath), not loose enough to get in the way/get caught on things. Super stretchy and breathable. The perfect pant for the mountains.

    Tight like a Tiger

I've been exclusively wearing these pants ice climbing and I love them. My only gripe is that they're a little too tight on the lower legs and wearing mountain boots makes you look like you have disproportionately large feet, but climbing isn't all about fashion, isn't it?

Absolutely love the waterproof/reinforced(?) knees, I kneel down on snowy ledges all day and don't have annoying wet knees when I stand back up. Would recommend, but keep in mind they are a pretty snug fit.

    lookin good good lookin

These are awesome. Definitely not for sweltering summer days, but when the wind is blowing 35 your way they do a good job. They fit pretty slim so be ready.

Great pant. Fit awesome, but a little bit too light for the chilly +10,000" usage I was looking for. Still giving five stars because it's an awesome pant. But if you're looking for something that comes with insulation look elsewhere.

    Perfect!

These pants are awesome! I got them for a ten day camping trip around Iceland and although I did take other pants with me, I wore these bad boys every day. The fit is great for those who don't like the baggy look.

I'm pretty sure these will now be my go-to pants whenever I'm running around in the forest now.

    Perfect!

I wear these pants everywhere. Hiking, ice climbing, walking around town, these pants fit a wide variety of activities. They are durable, and hold up well in conditions ranging from moderately warm to fairly cold. I've done some glissading in the snow with them, though I tend to switch to a rain shell if there is heavier precipitation (more out of caution than any limitation of the pants). The material on the knees is a bit more durable than the rest of the pants, which I suspect will help with overall lifespan.

I've found the fit to to be great; I am quite short and have an athletic build, and they run slightly long (with boots this vanishes). The pants are snug, but I have never felt constrained in my movement.

In summary, these are my go to pants for any outdoor activity; I only swap them out when the temperature gets warm enough for shorts.

    Unanswered Question

Could these be used for subzero biking over my thermal tights? Do they fit snugly around legs but still have wide range of movement?
