Homebase at the Beach

Our young family loves a day at the beach and this sun shelter is the ultimate homebase! The open floor allows the kids to play in the sand while still in the shade and then we can zip it up to keep our valuables somewhat safe when it's time to go play in the water. We have easily hosted six seated adults plus several kids sitting on the sand for lunch. We've had it set-up in moderate 10-15mph winds - no issue with some stakes and using coolers/gear bags to weight down the corners. We love it!

Weak Sauce

This sun/bug shelter is awesome in theory, but failed miserably in a moderate breeze. We set it up in our backyard for the first time today. We had maybe a 8-10mph breeze/wind and it smashed the shelter down to the ground like a pancake, bending both of the ridge poles. There are only 4 places to guy-out this very high profile unit, which is a pure design flaw from Marmot (sorry, but it's true). It needs about 8 more guy-out tabs, or an extra ridge pole or both. I've owned many Marmot products in the past and this is their first true miss. I don't know anywhere I could go and use this where it would not be susceptible to up to a 10mph wind. Family camping trips, youth sporting events, the beach, hunting base camp, etc. There is no way it would hold up to the outflow winds of even a small passing storm cell, so the fact that one of its features is to keep some water off of you in a rain is pretty much academic. I had high hopes for multiple uses for this Lanai, but it didn't last 20 minutes on a sunny blue bird day in my back yard. I'm going to need to contact customer service to have the poles replaced at a minimum, or simply return the shelter completely for a refund.

THE BEST SUNSHELTER ON THE MARKET

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love the Limestone my Dad had one and now I have one and my family loves it for all their camping adventures. When I saw that they came out with a limestone sun shelter, I had to have it. This thing is built like a tank and will stand up to anything. Our first trip was to the Oregon coast and it stood up while other peoples shelters were flying down the beach. What I love most about it though is the screened doors. Its pretty much a second tent with these screen doors they keep out the sand and the bugs. There is nothing better than sitting in there on a mosquito filled evening and enjoying the great outdoors in comfort.
