Avant Featherless Hooded Jacket

A new style from Marmot, the Women's Avant Featherless Hooded Jacket is impressively lightweight, reliably warm, and perfectly packable, making it great for any adventure. The lightweight synthetic insulation is kept in place by secure baffle construction, meaning you won't be subject to any cold spots from migrating insulation, and it will continue to insulate you even when wet. The face fabric is durable enough for this jacket to be worn as a standalone piece on dry days, yet is sleek enough to slip comfortably under a shell or heavier jacket, and the elastic binding on the hood and cuffs keeps them securely in place as you move. Marmot's signature Angel-Wing Movement allows full articulation of your arms without the body of the jacket riding up, adding comfort and mobility, and the drawcord hem finishes off the package by sealing out any cold wind from entering into your layers and giving you a chill.

  • Lightweight jacket for extra warmth on any outdoor adventure
  • Synthetic insulation traps body heat, even when wet
  • Baffle construction secures insulation to eliminate cold spots
  • Durable face fabric withstands snags from rough surfaces
  • Elastic around hood keeps is securely in place
  • Articulated cut for unrestricted motion
  • Drawcord hem seals out chilly air

i got this jacket for a camping trip through Tahoe, Yosemite, and the Mojave in October and I loved everything about it. I wore the mallard green color and because I am olive skinned with very dark hair, I thought it looked great in photos but it was also warm and cozy. It was great for sitting around the fire, hiking up a mountain, and wearing around town!

This is my go to coat on a cold snowy day. It's so lightweight, water repellent, and warm without feathers everywhere of a down jacket. Plus is a great wind breaker to the icy wind of a Wyoming winter. Get it!

This is a great coat for being warm in wet weather especially if you are not looking for down as insulation. The Angel wing fit is just loose enough comfortable for moving around without the jacket creeping up and leaving you to deal with a chill on the back. I liked the longer sleeves so I was not exposing wrists to the cold and the fabric held up great dodging pines. I have other coats that will get minor snags that are annoying, so that's something I look to avoid when choosing lightweight fabrics on coats. The coat took all the abuse the trees dumping water on my head could give! Overall this coat is a really comfortable jacket for a gal with curves which is a harder fit. It's something I'd wear around town as well as roaming the local mountains.

My wife loved that this jacket isn't super puffy but that it is still warm. She uses it for an outer-layer on mild days and a mid-layer for bitter days. The jacket also has long sleeves which are nice. They make it easier to use with gloves and provide some extra warmth around your wrists and hands.

Took this jacket camping for a cold weekend in the Uintas. Temperature was about 30 degrees at night and I was the only person who stayed warm! Super light weight, fitted enough to put a hoodie underneath without looking too boxy. I don't like my down jackets to be too fitted as I like to have the option to layer up. Hood was a nice touch to add a little extra warmth.

I am one of these people who is nearly always cold, so it is always a victory when I find a jacket that keeps me toasty warm! I have only used this jacket a couple times, but I took it up to Bear Lake, in northern Utah, where it can get pretty cold in the evenings. It was the first time I had spent a whole evening under the stars with friends and family and never felt cold! In fact, I was so cozy! Even though I have only gotten a weekends used out of this jacket, I highly recommend it to people who often find themselves feeling cold!

This is the warmest synthetic jacket I have ever tried out. Definitely for a cold winter active piece. It was actually too warm for me in the early Spring and Late fall. Kept me so warm in the winter!

Lofty Synthetic Insulation

Familiarity:
I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
Fit:
True to size

My wife and i both have used them and enjoy them. the Avant Featherless is really great. It lives up to its name very well with high loft in the baffles that looks like down and an overall performance and feel that is as close to down as i have seen so far in the synthetic category. There are of course some drawbacks such as smallest packed size it is capable of, but for a great mid synthetic layer it is a very good and toasty warm option.

I ordered a size Large for my wife and the fit was perfect. It was a great length for longer arms and she didn't feel or look boxy in it. She already experienced a heavy rainstorm in it and loved how dry she stayed. Warm but not too warm and very lightweight. She loves this Mallard Green color as well. It's different from her usual black or gray but not too bright.

Similar to the review below the fit of this jacket is a bit boxy. I tried sizing down and it was too small. The jacket is really warm and really well made. I love that its featherless down and that it insulated really well. I would recommend this jacket to anyone but let them know its more of a relaxed fit then fitted.

I should point out that I am more on the curvy side with larger hips and chest, smaller waist and long torso, hard to find items that fit. As most jackets for women go, looks very fitted and flattering on the model online and when you try it on it is boxy and big/small in all the wrong places. Arms are huge but good length for those with longer arms. I usually wear a L or XL and the XL was way too big around the chest/waist. That being said, compared to most brands out there this jacket fit better than the typical boxy and short look. Overall, it was very warm and good even when it was raining. I was out in a light drizzle for about an hour and never got wet or cold. I got the Mallard Green color and it is AMAZING.
