Why We Like The Mammut Zinal Guide Pant

Here to meet our every hiking need on the trail, the Mammut Zinal Guide Pant do an excellent job of balancing robust durability with a completely open range of motion. The stretchy nylon fabric resists wear and tear from overgrown trails while also helping us move freely over logs and rocks. When the temps start to rise, we unzip the mesh-lined side vents to release excess heat quickly and easily, while a plethora of zippered pockets safely stow our on-trail essentials.

Durable and high-quality, but too big in the waist

Other Mammut pants fit my waist as expected, but these pants are a little too big - that's kind of frustrating, because I don't want to wear a belt when I'm out backpacking. But I think if you size down, these could be good pants. I really like the material, the build quality is good, and the side vent zippers are a very cool feature unlike any other pants I have.

Overall exceptional, but fit could use improvement

From other reviews mentioning describing athletic cut I decided to order one size up, and I'm glad I did. The the taper from the waist is pretty aggressive, but if ever day is leg day for you the fit should be great. I haven't had the opportunity to try them out in the wild just yet, but the materials seem bomber as does construction. Will update after some thorough use.

A bit long, but good overall

I use these for hiking, not climbing. I've put in a lot of bushwhacking miles in these pants and they have held up well. The side vents are nice on warmer days, as the black color does get quite warm quite fast. Only issues with them is the fit, for hiking that is. I wear a 32x32 in most pants, so I ordered that size. These are way long. I could see them fitting really well if I were wearing a harness though, so maybe that's what they were designed for. If they were designed for hiking, it seem like they were designed to be worn on top of you hip bones, which is not how I wear my pants.

Pants fit well with an athletic fit. Material keeps you a bit drier for longer than normal hiking pants when walking through a bit of wet brush. Rear and front thigh pocket are nearly useless. Rear pocket is much too big so anything put in there slides down below your bum. Front thigh pocket is too tight for anything. Its 2020 a cell phone pocket is essential and would best be put behind the thigh on the outside behind the leg vents. Vents work well and are welcome on warmer days. Haven't skied in them yet but the calf zipper opens enough to get over my lightweight touring boots without stretching the material. Will be great for late spring skiing.
