Load up and go.
Built for covering a lot of ground with the weight of a heavy pack on your back, Mammut's Trovat Guide High GTX Men's Hiking Boot is a trail-dominating machine that will carry you over miles of rock- and root-strewn terrain in both wet and dry conditions. A Gore-Tex membrane adds a waterproof finish to the all-leather upper's already water-resistant nature, and it maintains a good amount of breathability, so your feet don't feel hot and swampy during those warm summer days.
Mammut gave the Trovat its Base Fit 2.0 heel strap to give the boot a snug and secure fit that reduces loose and comfortable rubbing, then added a full-wrap rubber rand around the outside to protect the leather from excessive wear when you're exploring rocky rides and hiking off trail. Best of all, Mammut built the boot on a burly Vibram rubber sole for solid traction and sure footing on a variety of surfaces on and off trail.

This is a great boot. I had discovered Raichle boots when I was serving in the military overseas, since then, I had always wanted another pair. After doing my research, I found out that Raichle had been bought out by Mammut and the product would now be carried under their banner. Research had told me that these were essentially the same boot, with some added bells and whistles from the transition to the new company. I decided to roll the dice and see if this was the boot I had been dreaming about for the past 14 years.....I would not be disappointed.
The last pair I had were a little too snug, and I heard these ran a little small, so I opted for an 11.5. I wear a 10.5W in Army boots and usually an 11 for most footwear. These didn't come in a wide model, so I opted for a half size larger boot. This was a great call. The boots fit well, snug enough to be comfortable and provide support without being uncomfortable. I can only assume they will get better as they break in.
Another of the features I really dig on this boot is the full rand wrap. I'm always kicking rocks and roots. The toe of my boots always get major scuffage, as well as the sides of my heels. This full rand protects the bottom seal of the boot to the sole and protects the leather at the base of the boot from my clumsiness. It's a great addition and a major reason why I went with the Guide over the Advanced. The lacing system on this boot is also great, the laces really lock into hook eyelets and the heel lock system is great. The boot is also designed in a way that the outside is slightly built up to prevent rolling of the ankles, I really love how they feel on the ground! Super stable! The Napa leather around the ankle is soft and feels great when you really cinch down the laces. The feature I love the most is the face the boot can be resoled. This is such a big factor for me as I tend to wear out heels at a pretty good rate, the Vibram sole on this is rock solid, but the fact it can be replaced was a huge factor for me. These boots will last a really long time, when you factor this in. If you have any other repair needs, the company guarantees they will fix them or replace them for a fair price.
The only improvement I would make to this boot is the tongue gussets only go about 85% up, I would prefer they would be fully gusseted but I've had zero issues so far, so I can't really complain.
Overall, I really dig this boot. I look forward to putting them on in the morning, and I can't say that for most footwear. I would recommend a thousand times over!
Walked miles and miles in these
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: 9.5
- Height: 5'5"
- Weight: 145lbs
These fit true to size, I'm a 9.5 in almost all shoes, and these fit me just fine. I've hiked many miles in these boots, mostly fall and winter hikes and found them to be built very tough. They are pretty rigid (but fully rigid) which is great because they end up taking the beating instead of my feet, but after a couple of days hiking my feet did hurt. Great waterproofing, I've walked through water without any problems. Would definitely recommend these boots.
Nice boot but...
Appears well made. Quality sole with enough cushion to be comfortable over long distances. Really nice leather lining. Wanted to be able to use these BUT they run small. I'm a 13d. Got these in 13. Much closer to a size 12. Very much look and feel like a well designed boot but definitely run a size small.
How tall is this boot- from ground to the top of the boot shaft- at the highest point? Ideally, measurement from a size 10, but I'll take what I can get! Is there a difference in height between this boot and the Mammut Trovat Advanced boot?
