Rough rock-riding from hereon out.

Mammut made its Rough Rider Chalk Bag super-durable with canvas-reinforced Cordura, so you can grind it against chimneys and rocks without a worry. Its thick fleece lining is sure to give you all the chalk you need for a dry, secure grip on holds (or lack thereof). The drawcord closure keeps it tightly closed so chalk doesn't snow down on your belayer, and two suspension points give you a secure fit when you pair this bag with the included waistband. A handy brush holder makes it easy for you clean up any over-chalked hold, and the zippered compartment stores your tape so you don't have to finish the rest of multipitches with torn-up fingers for lack of protection.

Cool Bag

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Does its job and seems pretty durable so far. The pocket is pretty useful as well, and I haven't seen it on a lot of other models that I've had. Dope stuff.

Quality Mammut Product

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Lightweight, stylish, and hold chalk well. I like the zipper and brush-holder sleeve. The waist belt is strong, and anchored with a sleeve at the top of the bag. The opening is good for even larger-sized hands.

The photo of the product is not accurate. The brown patch is a much darker brown, illuminating the Mammut logo. The Grey patches are also a deep dark grey, almost black, type of color. just a heads up for you fashionable folks.

Picking Up Slack

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I got this bag to replace a Metolius chalk bag I've had for a few years and never really cared for. My old bag was bulky and didn't cinch easily for me. This bag is a great replacement! Doesn't feel like it's ever in my way and so far no issues cinching the top completely! Chalk bag problems are the last thing I want to worry about when climbing, and this bag has solved mine!

Chalk bags....they do their job

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Great chalk bag, I have been using it for a week now and I don't have any complaints. Has a stylish look to it, nice loop for a hold brush and the zip pocket is a cool feature to throw a locker key or some bandaids in. The only thing I would note is that if you have larger hands you may want to go a different rout. I have med/large hands and the opening is good for me but if you wear a large or XL glove, you may have trouble chalking up.

looks good, well-made, durable materials

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Overall i really like the bag. The material feels very durable. Love the look. The small zipper pocket is great for a key or contact lens drops. The strap removes. My hands are on the larger side, but i have no problem getting them in and out. My only gripe is the cinch closure. It almost always leaves a small opening in the middle no matter how hard you cinch it down. I also find that it takes some extra fidgeting with two hands to open all the way. Other bags I've used seem to open more easily with a single hand.

Note, because of the shape, the bag doesn't like to sit upright on its own. So, if you like to set your bag down after chalking up (e.g., bouldering) you might want to look for one having a flatter bottom.

Sturdy, good size, nice design

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

When you receive the bag you see it means business.

what i like:

1)It's very sturdy,

2) it's light,

3) it's a good size (more medium than small)

4) zippered compartment has a strap with mini carabiner, so you can securely clip on keys, rings etc.

5) love the color combo.

Works great!

There's loads of room in this bag. I've taken it climbing with me at the local gym many times now and it hasn't let me down. The fleece lining is wonderful and I love the feel on my hands. No bruises on this bag. Still looks like new.

    Good bag, wrong colors

I got this as a gift for a fellow climber. I'm considering returning it because the colors are not true to the picture. The color combo doesn't look nearly as good in person. The "sand" is more brown than yellow/tan. Not super happy about it, but the bag itself is good!!
