These pants are so much more than a hiking pant... I've used them for big mountaineering expeditions up Denali and Mt Logan, as well as multi day multi-pitch rock climbing traverses and spring ski touring. They are SPF proof and I'm pretty sure the fabric is Schoeller fabric (aka water resistant, stretchy + awesome!) The side pocket is BIG... you can fit a map, snack, rite in rain or a transceiver. I have two pairs of these pants, a size 6 for summer trips and size 8 for winter/spring trips so that I can fit a pair of long underwear underneath. The hem has snaps to adjust to the size of your boots, turning them into built in gaiters. These pants are my all time favourite for big peaks!
