In cold conditions, nothing protects like a puffy.

When things get really chilly, zip up the Women's Mammut Biwak Down Jacket for the unmatched warmth of 800-fill goose down. The innovative double chamber construction eliminates the cold spots that typically plague down jackets, and Fibrefill body mapping inserts on the back and underarms work to transfer perspiration to where it can evaporate. Adjust the hem and hood for a snug fit, then enjoy the scenery on freezing cold days that would have normally sent you running for shelter.

    • The Pertex Endurance shell fabric resists water and is highly compressible so you can pack this puffy for winter trips
    • 800-fill goose down keeps you warm in the bitter cold of the high mountains
    • Innovative double chamber construction eliminates cold spots in the jacket
    • Fibrefill body mapping inserts on the back and underarms transfer moisture to where it can evaporate
    • Three-point hood adjustment system ensures a perfect fit with or without a helmet
    • Lycra hand gaiters seal around wrists to keep snow out
    • Adjustable hem with a mini-skirt seals around the hips and won't ride up

NOT water resistant, VERY wind resistant

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 190lbs

I bought this coat for a trip to Norway where I expected extremely cold temperatures, with lots of wind and moisture. I was extremely satisfied for the warmth the coat provided against the winds, BUT for the 2 times I was caught in the rain during my hiking excursions I was BEYOND disappointed and completely soaked through. For the price I would have expected better water resistance. It dried quickly and was still warm against the cold winds.

    Finally warm

Finally found a jacket that keeps me warm. Have used it at the resort and in backcountry. Was very warm (while moving) in single digits & strong wind gusts in the backcountry. Got a small (5'6", 130 lbs) and it allows for a few layers underneath. Comes down low in the back and the hood fits nicely over ski helmet. Only downsides is no interior zip pocket. Note that the interior of the Cyan color is orange, not pink as it appears in the photo. The mesh interior pockets are pink, which is still unfortunate, but not as bad as the whole interior being pink.

I'm cold blooded and therefore have been on the hunt for the warmest of the warm down jacket available. This one does the trick; the fit is great, with it being long enough to keep my booty warm and keep in the heat and is comfortable fully zipped, not nose chafe. The wrist gator seemed a little overkill at first but not I see that it just aids in keeping the heat in even more! I love to go on night winter walks and this jacket keeps me comfortable and warm no problem! Not to mention the down is soft and comfortable so you don't feel like a stale marshmallow!! Finally, the blue/orange color combo is bad ass, so, buy this jacket if you want to be warm no matter what and look great in the process.

My husband picked this jacket out for me and I have been pleasantly surprised by it's performance! For as lightweight as it is, it's amazingly warm! I've worn it skiing, hiking, running errands, etc. and it's just the most perfect jacket. The cut is flattering and doesn't make you look like a marshmallow. Zippered pockets that are lined warm hands and also secure keys and phone. This jacket is well worth the price tag and will not disappoint!

    Great Fit and look

Giftee says she loves the thumb holsters, warmth ("very warm" coming from a cold blooded bride), puffy look...she doesn't really have a view on pockets as she skis with gloves glued on but having her say this is warm is a real hint.....

I love this puffy! I've been looking for a new one for quite some time and until now hadn't found one I like. I ordered a medium as I layer like crazy and it fits perfectly. The puff is great, thinner than I expected and I don't feel or look like a giant marshmallow. We spent our first day together on the slopes of Vermont (where we ski every weekend) in sub 10 degree weather, and to my amazement I never got cold. I was actually quite warm. It seems to block the wind as well. My only complaint is there are not enough pockets, one on the chest for your phone or snacks would be great, but over all I'm psyched about this purchase! From someone who is always cold I would highly recommend the Biwak!

One of the warmest jackets available.

This jacket is for my wife; she's 5'6" and normally a 12-14; the XL fit her perfectly. The colors (cyan with orange trim) are very hip and, according to my wife, quite cute. We tried this jacket head to head against the Arcteryx Ceres, which costs about 50% more. The Ceres has a windstopper liner and, true to form, was slightly better at blocking the wind in super windy conditions. Short of those conditions, however, the Biwak is just as warm as the Ceres.

If it was about 2" longer, it would be perfect. As it is, it just barely covers your butt...a smidge more length would add a lot of warmth without sacrificing its versatility for skiing and activities.

We haven't had a chance to test this one in a downpour, but in light rain and wet snow, it is more than adequately waterproof to keep you warm and dry indefinitely. It has integrated thumb loops/handwarmers that make a very nice system to wear under gloves, without having any cold spots.

I have to admit, I slipped it on and walked around the yard on a super cold day...if they made it in dude colors, I'd have to think about getting one! It is one of the warmest jackets I've ever tried on. Ever.

We tried six different down jackets for my wife, and this was the keeper for the coldest of weather. Great product.

    Warmest. Puffy. Ever.

Bought this for my 'always cold' wife. I asked her how she was doing after a couple runs, we were at the top of the mountain, ice crystals were building up on my beard and zipper pulls... she said "I'M HOT!!!!" first time that's ever happened to me.

Its well thought out and well worth the money, its all in the details - its extra long back keeps her butt warm on an icy chair
    - silicon taped skirt keeps all the powder out, every time
    - big pockets inside for stashing stuff

The only problem I worry about with this jacket is durability. I can attest to its waterproofing (excellent). However, the skin of this puffy isn't super thick. I didn't buy one for myself because I swat branches on purpose sometimes, and carry my skis over my shoulder, which i think would rip this jacket. I wear a shell for this reason. Its not really a downside of this jacket, just know what its made for and what its not.

UPDATE: Two seasons of 30+ ski days in the front and backcountry and its still her favorite jacket. She does not wear it from the parking lot with skis (sharp edges) over her shoulder and that probably helps. Jacket is still in perfect condition.

    Dear Puffy,

I am writing this to let you know how much you mean to me. Though I've only been with you for a short time, I truly do not know how I survived the brutality of winter before you came along and changed my life.

Before you, winters were a dark, sad time when I dreaded going out into the world. Now, because of you I have an entirely different perspective of winter. I can now venture into the frigid cold and pursue whatever adventures I please without fear because I know you will be there to protect me. You are truly the warmest jacket I have ever had the pleasure to wear, and I am proud to call you mine.

Thank you for your warmth and protection, and I look forward to many cold-weather adventures with you in the future.

    Love always,

    An Obsessed Gearhead

    Mammut Biwak Down Jacket

Mammut: "Hybrid down and fiberfill jacket for alpine and Arctic activities, the perfect combination of heat performance, functionality and performance/volume/weight ratio! Great Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large

This is a great winter jacket. I am 5'11 and about 145 pounds and I ordered a small. I like my jackets to fit a bit more on the snug side, and the Size small does, but it does not feel too constricting. I can wear a thin base-layer underneath with another (thinner...such as silk polyester fabric) long-sleeved shirt over the base; all under this jacket, zipped up comfortably.

I live in Connecticut and this jacket is very, very warm. I've worn it when the temps dropped down into the teens and single digits and it's been great against wind, sleet, and cold in general.

I love that it has so many pockets and compartments to store things. I can keep my car keys and cell phone in one pocket and it does not cause the pocket to look awkward and bulging out with "things." It also keeps the hands warm (the pockets). The length of the arms is perfect too.

The little mesh bag that comes with the Biwak down jacket is a nice feature. I wore the jacket to the airport the other morning (it was 7 degrees), by the time I landed; I was too warm and I scrunched up the jacket and put it in it's little mesh bag. After sitting in the bag for a couple days, the jacket was really wrinkled, but after hanging up for one night, all the wrinkles were gone.

The fabric is smooth and is not quite as bright (I got the pink) as the color of the picture.

One (tiny) thing that bothers me: when I first looked at this jacket I noticed black "marks" on the fabric. At first glance, I thought this was black ink from a pen, but upon further inspection, realized that's just how it looks, due to the feathers inside. It actually has these little black "specks" all over, and while I don't LOVE that, I'm used to it now and no longer really think it looks like stains or marks. Just looks like part of the jacket. I think one way to avoid this altogether would have been to order the jacket in black.

Overall, very satisfied. I have never spent this much on one jacket before but worth every penny!

    Really Nice...I love It!!

We have a lot of down in our house...Mont-Bell, Westcomb, TNF, Feathered Friends and now Mammut. Our dog torn an enormous hole in the arm of my FF Elia jacket (which I love and wear all the time and recomend to anyone). We like to buy stuff made in North America, but we went ahead and bought this in spite of it being made in China. Am I glad we did. It's super light, comfortable, roomy in all the right places, looks really nice and the back drops to about the middle of my butt (I'm 5'1" and 115lbs), which is awesome on cold New York mornings on my leather car seats. I got the small, it's a little big without layering under, but perfect with layers under...making it just the right size. It's puffy and warm, but isn't as bulky and Michelin Man-y as my FF jacket (which isn't a Michelin Man jacket to begin with). I just love it, and never want to take it off!!

BEST down jacket we have ever seen!!

.....As Shania Twain would sing....."Feel like a Women"......My wife wears this coat every day. From my perspective, it is a fabulous fit on her ;) - and she would agree. This is not just another bulky down coat made for men that is being marketed to women. It is compressed, hourglass shaped, and sleek looking on my wife. The longer length that partially covers the butt makes for warmer days on the lift at Jackson Hole or Grand Targhee Resorts. She wears this to drop kids off at school as a car coat, for lift skiing, and as a down back-up for after a good long skin in the back country. It has crazy lightweight packability and goes in this great little tiny stuff sack. The water resistant aspect is key for any day. She seldom wears a hat as the hood has a perfect secure fit. With the 800 fill, this coat is essentially a wearable lightweight sleeping bag. The color is through the roof awesome with amazing turquoise accents and crazy bright, great Mammut orange logo on the upper sleeve! For a happier winter day (in case you weren't happy enough) - wear the Mammut Biwak!!

Note: This jacket could definitely be compressed smaller than what you see in the view above when compared to a Nalgene bottle. It could easily be squished quite a bit more to save space in a pack or when traveling. (Also doubles as a fairly luxe pillow) : )
