Scooping, cutting, and hoeing—nothing is beyond your reach.

Whether you're traversing high ridgelines or building backcountry booters, the Alugator Pro Shovel from Mammut is what you want on your back or in your hands. A durable anodized aluminum blade can be configured in three different positions, scoop, cut, and hoe, depending on the situation. The oval telescoping shaft is extremely tough and can be used in either its straight or 90-degree folded position. The Alugator Pro is sized to fit most backcountry-touring packs, so it's always easy to bring it along with you.

Awesome shovel - HOE MODE OPTION!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

As noted in another comment, it's important to know that this shovel converts to hoe mode, which can save valuable time in critical burial situations (aren't they all critical?). Love the blade to cut through dense snow and ice, and you can count on the Mammut quality--strong, reliable, lightweight too. Thankfully, my familiarity with this involves several practice sessions; fortunate I haven't had to use it in real-life rescues to this point.

    Great tool

Great job on this shovel. I like a larger bladed shovel and one that does not bend and deform easily. This one is stout and really well made. you can dig normally or chop at ice with the hoe style. Big shovel and long telescoping handle but still fits in my packs shovel pocket.
