    Fight gravity.

They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but Magura's new MT7 Next hydraulic disc brakes prove that the venerable German dirt-hound hasn't stopped learning just yet. The company's been making mountain bike brakes as long as anybody, and the new MT7 is extra light but has enough stopping power to keep gravity maniacs and enduro chargers more than happy.

Carbotecture SL brake body, which uses a superlight and strong composite reservoir to save weight, was cribbed from Magura's MT series. A lever made of forged aluminum weighs almost nothing and has a highly ergonomic design for easy use with one or two fingers, and has tool-free bite-point and lever throw adjusters so you can dial in the braking setup of your dreams, so you don't lock up your brakes without reaaaally meaning to.

Best of all is the four-piston forged alloy caliper. Inspired by Magura's killer motocross and superbike brakes, it uses individual brake pads for every pistion--that's four brake pads, if you weren't counting--which gives you unparalleled modulation and stopping power. The setup also employs Magura's magnetiXchange system, which uses a high-power magnet for pad retention, meaning the pads are easy to swap when they need to be replaced. The M7 is also designed to run on Magura's Royal Blood mineral oil, which is highly resistant to overheating and easier to use than standard brake fluids.

    Surprisingly impressed

I snatched this brake set up with a sale. I was skeptical to purchase them due to what I ride here in Italy, with them being on the side of over kill in the stopping department. After getting them dialed in with my type of modulation, I'm in love with them and do not regret the purchase at all.

      Plenty of power

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

If you are needing to lighten up your enduro bike without sacrificing stopping power, then the Magura MT7's are worthy set of brakes to check out.
The composite lever assembly would make most look in the other direction in regards to strength, but after taking a few tumbles and laying my bike down they seemed to hold up great.

4 pistons are better than 2

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've been riding with this brake for a while now and I'm impressed with the bite they offer. The 4 piston caliper provides tons of stopping power and leaves nothing to be desired.

I've paired this brake with the MT6 out back for the perfect enduro focused brakeset. The additional stopping power of the MT7 up front paired to the lighter weight MT6 out back makes for a capable, fairly light, brakeset.

If you're looking for something different from the norm give these brakes a try. You won't be disappointed.
