Built to last.
Sung fitting mountain bike shoes are wonderful for maximizing efficiency, but if they are a little too tight, they can start causing foot pain on longer rides forcing you to loosen the buckles and dials defeating the purpose of the tight fit. If you're looking for a pair of mountain bike kicks that give your feet a little more wiggle room but don't need to jump to a full wide last, the Lake's Men MX237 Endurance Cycling Shoe might be the ticket. Lake still instills its race-bred heritage into these shoes but optimizes the fit so your feet can still lay down the power 5-hours into a ride. Make no mistake, these shoes are still very much performance oriented, but thoughtful details increase the scope of these shoes from a 1:30 hour XC race to more epic endeavors. Dual Boa L5 closures offer refined tuning and the full grain leather upper breaks-in like a Barcalounger. The Helcor Abrasion resistant leather panels add durability over the standard MX237 giving these shoes a little more robustness in the backcountry and protection while scrambling up rocky hike-a-bikes, so they're likely to last as long as your favorite chair too.
What's key to the MX237's Endurance comfort is in part courtesy of Lake’s Competition last. It focuses your pedaling efforts on the ball of your foot, harnessing every watt into forwarding propulsion. Where it deviates from the 332's MX Race Last is the added room in the toe box giving your feet some much needed real estate, hours into your ride. Another area where the Endurance splits from the standard 237 is in the heel lining. Hook lycra makes an appearance and grips your socks with authority preventing heel slippage and further contributing to perfect pedaling. Lake’s stiff Race carbon fiber sole offers excellent pedaling efficiency and drops some grams and its covered with grippy Mountain Race X rubber sole for sure footing while off the bike. The resulting shoe is comfortable and highly efficient, both good things if you a looking at longer rides.
Boa closures are almost ubiquitous on every higher-end cycling shoe, and for good reason. They offer easy fine-tuning and stay tight throughout your entire ride. Having one at the top of the shoe and midfoot allows you to easily adjust tension independently on the forefoot and the heel, so you can lock down your heel, without having to over-tighten the rest of the shoe. This encourages a near custom fit that offers better blood flow and greater comfort. Mesh panels on the side and tongue maximize cooling airflow and are appreciated on hot, humid days. These Lake MX237 Shoes are available in sizes starting at 37 and going up to a massive 50 and in the colors Black/Black, Camo Forest, Enduro Brown, Red/Black, and Orange/Black.

Awesome...If They Had Size 49
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
I would love to own pair of these. Nothing fits like genuine leather, and these are top-grain leather, not pleather or action leather or any other leather-ish stuff. But alas! Lake only makes sizes 39 through 48, then 50, skipping size 49! (My size.) Furthermore, backcountry doesn't have any size bigger than 47. All I can do is keep pestering Lake and backcountry, until they get what I need. Thus this review.
