Good, wide shoe

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I've owned the MX219's for close to a year now, they are the best shoes I've worn. There are a few issues I've experienced, including the Boa not keeping my feet snug in the shoe, (easy to reach down & tighten while riding). Also, the L6 Boa can't be losened w/out pulling up and releasing, which is not easy on these. I own the wide version of these, which really gives my feet enough room to spread & splay, (as Tony Post from Topo Athletic likes to say). I do have a good amount of heal lift when walking uphill in these, (I have not tried to heat them in the oven and form the heal, but may). They've held up well, with little wear showing, (I do clean them regularly), and the Clarino material is tough enough to not show light scuffing, (I own the blue ones), and the "gum rubber" soles also clean up. The breath-ability is good, and with a lighter sock, my feet stay fairly cool, (I removed the 2 toe bolts which may help a bit). Doing hike-a-bike's, the traction is good, with the large mid-sole lugs, just wish the heals where tighter. Not much flex in the carbon soles, (to be expected). I wear an 11 in my hiking shoes, which is a 44 according to Lake's chart, but had to bump up to a 45 in these. If you have a fairly wide foot and want more comfort in a well-made shoe, consider these. I will be moving up to another Lake shoe w 2 Boa's eventually, but the price on these is more reasonable. I use these both on my mt & road bike with Shimano cleats & XT (PD-M8120) pedals.
