Why We Like The La Sportiva TX2 Evo Leather Approach Shoe
Walks to new climbing routes come with a lot of unknowns. But one constant is our choice in wearing the TX2 Evo Leather Approach Shoe from La Sportiva. It has a light and supple design which is easy to pack when we switch into our real cliff-clinging footwear but that still lends the support and traction needed for tiptoeing up precarious scrambles of rockfall.

TX2 Evo Leather
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
Sizing is different than TX2 Evo, and fits me better. Sizing similar to TX4. The leather version is not packable like the non-leather version. They take up about as much room as TX4s. Unlike the TX2 non-leather version, the tongue is not gusseted which is a plus for me.

Comfortable w/ strong Grip, but bad size
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:
- I wear 10 - 10.5, 11 (44.5) fit
I love La Sportiva approach shoes, this is my third pair. I wish La Sportiva would keep styles around a little longer. Each pair have been completely different. These are very comfortable and appear to be high quality. They caught my eye because it was stated they are resoleable, which means I'll be able to keep them longer. BEWARE of the sizing, they are not correct. I wear 10 - 10.5, the reviews state they are small, so I purchased 10.5 (43.5), way too small. I went to 10.5+ (44), still too small, and finally 11 (44.5) and received a reasonable fit. By too small, I mean my toes hit the end of the shoe.

Major Durability Issues
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
These are great approach shoes…while they last. Unfortunately I’ve now had 3 different pairs of these (covered under warranty thankfully) and every single pair started developing a major separation/tear between the leather and rubber at the front outside edge in the exact same spot after just 2 months or less of normal occasional use. I had a previous pair of the past TX2 leathers that lasted 3 years and a resole and they never tore at all. Please fix this major durability issue!

Excellent approach shoes!

I have been a long-time fan of La Sportiva and the new TX2 EVO Leather does not disappoint. Fit is wider in the toebox area compared to the TX Guide, but narrower in the toe box compared to the TX3. I have a roughly D width forefoot and the fit is perfect. I debated going up a half size, but stayed with my true measured size. For a real approach shoe, I want them to be snug for performance when scrambling. The EVA midsole provides enough cushion but is also very low profile and feels natural for scrambling. The shoes are low bulk and could be clipped to the harness (heel has an elastic cord to put them together to be compact). The sole tread is burly and sticky. The lugs are pretty low profile and perform well on both dirt and rock. The upper leather so far feels pretty tough. Heel and toe rubber protectors are minimal, yet critical for durability. Typically when the tread on my approach shoes is worn out, the uppers are also in dire condition. The EVO has an option to be easily resoled and these uppers seem durable enough to have multiple soles. Well done La Sportiva! I highly recommend giving these a try.

I've been wearing this shoe for a few weeks now and thus far am very impressed. Overall it performs similarly to the tx3 or tx4, but is significantly lighter and more packable. This is a perfect shoe for multipitch climbing with a walk off that you'd want approach shoes for. The bungee cord system to attach the shoes together is intuitive and simple. They also scramble really well compared to other approach shoes that I've used- so far I've only done some 4th class climbing in them, but they feel very comfortable in that kind of terrain. As for fit, I sized them the same as the tx3/4 and I find them to be a little tight in the toe box, which is my only real criticism of them at this point. with that in mind, I'd recommend going up a half size to accommodate. For me this is my new go to shoe for in a day missions in the mountains or long walks to my local crag.
