Lightweight, grippy and comfortable

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 41.5
  • Height: 5'7"
  • Weight: 160lbs

Purchased these hiking shoes to use for my upcoming Kilimanjaro trek! Not a fan of the high ankle on many hiking boots I tried on, so I opted for this low cut style, which fit perfectly below my ankle bones. I've hiked quite a few trails this summer in the Salt Lake City area with mid-weight Smartwool socks (what I plan to use on the trek) and have been surprised with how breathable these shoes are - my feet have been a bit warm, but nothing like you'd expect for hiking in full summer in thicker wool socks and GoreTex shoes! To me they seem very light compared to many hiking shoes, especially waterproof ones. The break-in has been easy, with one small blister from a little heel slippage while climbing on my smaller foot - I suspect I could have gone for a 41, but wanted room for the heavyweight socks on summit day. Hiking in scree, across rock slabs and sandy sections, so far I've been happy with the grip provided by the hefty lugs on the sole as well.

Finally took these up to Uhuru Peak, Kilimanjaro and I found them to be fairly fantastic, with two complaints.
1) My toes got COLD on summit night. I wore heavy wool socks with liners and my toes were numb within the first hour of the 6 hour summit hike. Used some hand warmers in my socks which helped, but the strength of these shoes is the coolness, not the warmth.
2) After now hiking a total of ~50 miles in these, a few of the lugs have begun chipping away. With such pronounced lugs as these, it is not uncommon, but I hoped they would last a bit longer!

Hiking shoes

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I got these as a gift for my mom and this is what she said. Just tried out my new hiking shoes and I couldn’t be happier! They were
comfortable from my very first steps. The generous width and supportive
construction made my hike that much more enjoyable. We hiked for only
about 7 miles, but my feet felt just as good on the first mile as it did
on the last. I didn’t experience any “break-in” period. I would
definitely recommend these. If you have any questions hit me at 801-523-4075 or email me at

41.5 = 9.5+ (accurate in the chart)

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: EU 41.5 (US 9.5+)

Just as the size chart suggests, the 41.5 is equivalent to a 9.5+.

There was no 41 in stock (equal to regular 9.5) when I purchased so I tried the 41.5 since my feet are a touch wide anyway.

I would say the sizing chart for this size was spot on. They were comfortable straight out of the box, and I wondered if I needed to size down. It seems I could go either way, and either wear a slightly thicker sock, or simply allow my foot to spread naturally, and these would also allow for a little feet swelling after long miles.

I haven't decided if I will keep these yet as I am looking at a few other trail running style options for hiking as well, but these seem like a solid option, and I always appreciate a vibram sole.

La Sportiva Primer Low GTX

I was in love with La Sportiva till I bougth this model. They look so nice but they are so unstable. Their platform is too high and narrow, for the width of their last, making very easy to bend the ankle. Foot have friction inside causing blister. Too expensive for their performance. I will never buy this brand again.

    Comfortable and waterproof and cute!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 37

I spent a long time looking for a good hiking shoe that was more supportive than my running shoes but not as heavy as my leather hiking boots. It was surprisingly hard to find a hiking shoe that was waterproof and also not super unattractive.
These fit the bill perfectly - a bit chunkier than the low-profile running shoes I've gotten used to but still not clunky. There's a good amount of padding in the footbed and the first time I took them out on the trail my feet felt amazing.
When I ordered these on sale, the smallest size available was a 37, and I got a different Sportiva style in a 36 and 36.5. I'm normally a US 6/European 36 and both the 36 and 36.5 were way too small, so these run at least a size smaller for me. the 37 is perfect!

    Best shoe purchase ever made

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

As an avid hiking boot lover for years, I stepped out and tried this shoe as an alternative this spring. I absolutely fell in love! The single most comfortable shoe I have ever put on my feet. Great traction, lightweight, breathable, and fantastic support. No break in required! Definite win here folks!

    Out of the box comfort...

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 9.5 W Med
    • Height: 5'4"

Put these shoes on, they felt good and I was on my way out the door. They are lightweight on your feet and feel very cushioned on your sole. In second week of ownership I took a risk and wore them on an all day outing, tromping around NYC - dawn to body was tired but my feet felt great. The friend I was with liked them so much she tried them at a store too, and purchased them online later that evening. They get a shining star in my book.
