Excellent mountaineering boots
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
Shame I didn?t have these for the last 10 years of PNW summer climbing. These are ideal for nearly every objective out there. Not sure they?ll work for winter climbs, but I?m keen to try. Light and actually fun for the approaches. Sufficiently stiff for easy-going terrain, potentially up to AI3. Beyond that, I?d go for something more robust. Size 48 in these feels a bit longer (but similarly wide) as my trusty old Nepal Evos - beware when adding insoles. For the price, these are great. American Alpine Institute, REI, and Feathered Friends often have these for even less than Backcountry.

More of a snow boot
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Size Bought:
- 46
- Height:
- 6' 1"
- Weight:
- 190
As much as I had hoped to like these boots, they just didn?t work for me. The Vibram sole was too soft, not the hard rubber one is used to in a mountaineering boot. The fit was odd, no real ankle support, and felt like an LL Bean duck boot on steroids. They did look great, however, but just not the non insulated mountaineering boot I was after.
