Cheaper and more rugged than a tailgate cover, the Kuat Dirtbag Truck Bed Mount is a killer way to attach your babies (your bikes) to your other baby (your truck). These steel beauties screw right into your truck bed, and Kuat made models that are compatible with both thru-axles and quick-release dropouts, even for fat bikes, so you can find one that'll work with all your whips.

    Works Great!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have a 2 bike rear mount rack from Kuat and love it but sometimes I wanna just throw a bike in the back of my truck and stay on the DL. I mounted these fork mounts on a 2 x 4 cut to the width of my truck bed using 3/8" lag screws and voila...

    Sturdy Mount

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is a great sturdy mount at the price. There is no hardware included which is a bummer but I ended up just getting stuff from Ace hardware for Install. I got the 15x 110 which fit my boosted front fork perfect.

Great mount with one minor flaw

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Overall the product is fantastic. It is very sturdy and fits a 20mm x 110mm fork perfectly without using any spacers. My only complaint, and the loss of a star, is that the mount holes are not centered on the mount plate. I have a Utilitrack system in my truck bed that I mounted this to and found that because the mount holes are off-centered I had to add a backing plate behind the mount in order to get it to work on my Utilitrack. A simple fix, but one that would not be necessary if the mount holes were centered.

These are simple and work great! I was able to build a custom mount for my truck (didn't want to spend upwards of $500 for crossbars) with only 2x4s, some hardware, paint, and these mounts.

I usually hang my bike off the tailgate but didn't want them there for long trips. Even with the nicest pads, they rub on my carbon bikes due to road vibration. I wanted something for 1,000+ mile trips that was more sturdy.

    Easy to use

This is such a simple yet versatile bike carrying system, I'm surprised Kuat doesn't have more competition. Great for a DIY truck bed, or in a van, these are super secure and are really straightforward to install.

Note 1: The middle row seats are only folded down for photo purposes. We were able to fit the two bikes (29" wheels, size small and medium) in with the middle row seats up and usable. This makes it perfect for taking a couple ladies along. Or just picking up random hitchhikers to get some karma.
Note 2: This is possible in the Dodge Grand Caravan as it is longer than the normal Caravan. Results may very on different models. Hopefully future testing will determine compatibility with other vans.

If you need a touch more room, you can slide the fork mounts over a touch, then put the bikes in at an angle. IE move the fork to the right, and move the back wheel to the left. Gives you a bit more room if needed
I am able to give bikes inside my Honda Fit doing that.

The Kuat Dirtbag is a straight forward way to mount your bike. With a little creativity you could probably mount it to almost anything. The hardest part will be figuring out what size of axle you have. There are a lot of "standards" these days, but it seems like there is a dirtbag for almost all of them.

-Cheap. Leaving you more money for Ramen.

-Bomber. This thing is built to last. Super solid construction. It will last longer than my bike does. The biggest concern is the axle standard will become "outdated" and the mount will be functioning perfectly.

-Simple and easy to use. Get a couple screws or bolts and maybe some washers and you are in business. Mount it wherever you please,

-Keeps your bike super stable. As long as you mounted the Dirtbag correctly and inserted your axle properly, you bike isn't going anywhere. Take the corners at whatever speed you like. Rattle out your fillings on the washboard road, the Dirtbag won't let you down.

-It's black. Black goes with everything.

-You have to remove the front tire. What did you expect? It's a fork mount. As my mother always said, "dirtbags can't be choosers." Just find a place to put your front wheel and avoid squeezing your front hydraulic brake and you won't have any issues.

-You need a specific mount for each axle size. No adapters available.

Love these things. I bought a couple of them just for a specific trip and the price and functionality made it totally worth it. Get some. Unleash your inner Dirtbag.

    Mount up!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

We bought some of these on our most recent bike trip in order to figure out how to mount the bikes on the inside of a minivan. Yeah, a minivan of all things. But we just bought a board, two dirtbags, and boom! We had a makeshift rack that held the bikes like a champ!

Both bikes we were using had the 15mm thru-axle, so we bought two of those, and they worked great. One was a Fox fork and the other was a RockShox, so we didn't have any issues with the forks working on either bike, and they stayed nice and tight for the whole trip.

What I love about these mounts is that they are so versatile. We just screwed them to a 2x4 board, but after the trip we took them off and now we can mount them on a truck bed or on a different board. It doesn't really matter how you use them, but they can be used for so many different applications.

The construction of the dirtbag mount is super solid, giving you the confidence that your precious cargo is going to stay in place. Kuat always makes rad products and I plan on getting more of these to make moving bikes so much easier.

    Works good

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I mounted 15mm thruaxle and 9mm QR mounts in the bed of my Tacoma right behind the cab. Drilled two little holes in the bed floor and mounted with some bolts and Teflon locknuts I picked up for 40 cents at the hardware store. They secure the bikes pretty well but I run a strap over the frames to keep them from wiggling around while I drive. Only thing I can recommend is double checking the inside diameter where the axle or skewer slides through the mounts for burrs or flaws in the metal or paint to keep from scoring or damaging your axle on install. I did not do this my first time putting the bike on and a little imperfection inside the mount scratched some of the paint off my 15 thruaxle. No real damage but it was kind of a bummer as the axle was only 2 months old. Overall a good product and for the price, who wouldn't buy it?

    New Dirtbag Sizes

Just released, new 15MM and 20MM sizes now available and still under $20!!

      Hey Jeff,

Maybe a dumb question, but if i buy the 20mm will it still work okay with say a 9mm bike? Just trying to make it as univeral as possible to work with a wider range of bikes... thanks!!

Hey Joey! It will not, the barrel on the 20mm will be much too large ad is meant for thru axel not a quick release set up, it will be specific to a 20mm and not a 9mm. Luckily they are so perfectly priced, if you have a 9mm quick release skewer and a 20mm Thru Axel, you can definitely afford both dirtbags!

      Least expensive Rack available!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The Dirtbag fits all 9MM forks and is the least expensive bike Rack on the planet! Sturdy steel construction and mounts anywhere, can't miss for truck beds.

      Unanswered Question

well the kuat 15 fit 110 mm through axles as well, or is it just for 100mm? thanks!

      Unanswered Question

I have a very specific use for this product. As such I need to know the exact width of the flat metal plate that bolts to the truck bed. Just the width will do (the length and thickness is not material). This question relates to the 9mmx100mm bed mount. Thank you

How can you tell what size your quick...

How can you tell what size your quick release drop out is?

If the skewer stays in your wheel when you remove it and you have slotted dropouts on your fork, you have a 9mm quick release. They only come in one size. 15 and 20mm through axles have to be fully removed in order to remove your wheel. The size should be marked on the axle.
