TG3 sucks Moores law of boot quality

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

Sucks Not half the boot I'm wearing with a 1000 miles on them. Shipping this back tg2 is on order, but They probably cut its quality as well. No I won't try it on and I can't conceive of how someone can give it a 3 star or 4 ro 5 . really?

    Awesome Boot

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

These Targhee 3's are an awesome boot, and have such great support. Nice lightweight boot, very well made, and definitely have a very supportive shank to them! These boots are also very breathable, the mesh vent that they incorporated into this Targhee 3 was such a great feature that keeps your feet nice and cool out there on long hikes. The only downside to this boot is that they are a little bit wide for my foot, however my foot is definitely on the more narrow side of things. Overall though, awesome and high performance hiker!

    Out of the Box Fit!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

These boots, I must say, are pretty darn great. normally whenever I buy a pair of boots, there is a mandatory "break-in time". These times are generally filled with much sorrow and pain. However, these boots were the first time I have had a boot be comfortable and amazing right out of the box! The expanded toe box on it was incredibly cushy, but the half shank in there still made the boot still enough for the trail. The outsole and toe cap were incredibly grippy and strong, and I was honestly surprised on how well it cushioned my foot. The only reason I give it four stars instead of five is durability concerns on the leather; I have only been on a couple hikes, and the leather is already starting to scratch a little bit. I don't know, maybe Im hiking extreme trails or something.
In conclusion, if you need a really solid and comfortable boot for some basic hiking trails, then look no further! Definitely a really amazing boot, and something I would recommend to any hiker. If you have questions about the boot or anything else, feel free to reach out! My email is zricklefs@backcountry.com.

    Out of the Box Fit!

    Extremely well designed-boot of choice

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 11.5
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 170lbs

Right out of the box, the first thing noted was the very light weight feel in comparison to other hiking boots with similar characteristics. But, after hiking and walking for many miles in these boots, even though light weight, these boots provided significant support and stability.
These boots are well cushioned, just enough to be comfortable but still provide stability over rocky trails and steep terrain-both uphill and downhill. Heel pocket and lacing was well designed to keep the heel in the pocket without putting too much pressure on the arch or top of foot. Waterproofing worked without issue through numerous water tests-from fording streams to walking through wet grass.
Fit has been ideal for my somewhat wider feet.
Highly recommend these boots without reservation as being a great value and outstanding performance.

Great support without the weight. Reliably waterproof, with great traction and ankle support. Extra room in the toe helps with aggressive down hills with heavy loads. Perfect for long backpacking trips on mixed terrain! Hit me up with any questions!

    Great boot!

The perfect combination of comfort and performance. The leather construction is extremely durable and waterproof while the roomy toe box keeps my feet comfortable mile after mile.

I would recommend these to anyone looking for a solid pair of hiking boots, that will hold up for years and keep your feet happy.

    Fantastic support!

The Metatomical footbed design in these boots does a great job of starting from the bottom up for support. The Arch support is incredible and really makes the work on my feet ten times less. I've got a high arch and a mid wide foot so the last fits pretty well to my foot but the lacing system is pretty tight on the top bone of my foot so I skipped the loop where it synches down on that bone and it feels great! (Just dont skip the two loops closer to your toes, and the loop that integrates with the heel strap.) Keen Dry works just like Gore-tex, my feet were dry trudging through the muck and the boots breathed just like my regular goretex backpacking boots. Definitely like the new design, I picked up the Big Ben/Golden Brown color but I so wish I had got the Black Olive Golden Brown color! It looks awesome!

Keen has perfected the hiking boot!!

This boot is surprisingly comfortable right out of the box. The break in period was pretty minimal. Normally I have to wear boots for a few hikes before I feel like they have conformed to my feet and I won't get blisters but these boots didn't apply any odd pressure on any part of my foot.
These boots do have a very roomy toe box which is pretty typical for Keen so if you have wide feet or find yourself sizing up in hiking boots in order to fit the width of your foot, then give these boots a try. Having the leather outer makes these boots durable and they look great. They're waterproof they even grip well when wet. It doesn't matter whether you're climbing up the trail or descending down a rocky path, these boots keep you planted and keep your feet happy.
These are the best hiking boots I own.

    Good all around boot

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

I'm breaking these in for some early spring hiking and have some initial views. Two very positive items stick out. First, they have good support for arches and ankles. I've had some soreness in my heel due to wearing some less-than-ideal shoes last year. After I put these on I can go for long walks (5-10 miles) and have no pain. The arch support and cushion are perfect. Second, you've got lots of room for your toes. If you are looking for a boot with some room, these are going to be great. One bad impression: there seems to be more fabric for the tongue than is needed. The first couple of times I wore these the fabric bunched up and pressed into my foot. I had to remove the shoe and work to flatten out the fabric.

At this stage I would recommend for anyone looking at getting a new, well rounded boot for some spring hiking.

Tested these out in Moab and did some canyoneering. They stuck very nice to the slick rock, didn't experience any slippage even where fine sand was covering the rock. Offered great traction on the vertical sections of wall that we were rapping. Great support and cushioning, my feet were not tired after 5+ miles of hiking. They breath pretty well for a water proof boot. My feet were warm, which should be expected on a sunny day in the desert, but not overheating and uncomfortable. Stomped through some streams along the trail and they kept me nice and dry. My only complaint is that they run a little wide in the toe box. But from my experience with Keen, this is normal. I have narrow feet and because of this I started to get a hot spot on my big toes. But quality wise, I have no complaints. They run true to Keen's sizing.
