Perfect Fit

I was hesitant to buy a $70 t-shirt but I'm finally taking the plunge and giving merino a chance for my long term, active trip to Europe this summer. I have a somewhat athletic body type. I usually fall between a Medium and Large. I have a long torso, so I'm really picky about fit. I ordered the large, it arrived two days later, and it's a perfect fit for a casual shirt. A medium would probably be too tight and relegated to an undershirt for me. I've worn it around town a few times casually and it's perfect so far. The maintenance of merino is a little annoying to me as far as protecting it from moths and washing it carefully. However, the performance is great so far. I've been caught in the rain twice and it retained heat so well, I just wore it until it dried out. I've also done some light kettlebell workouts in it with good results from moving well and breathing well. I'll have to see how it holds up long term but so far it has exceeded my expectations. If they go on sale, I'll definitely buy another one.

I didn't read the "bodyfit" part of the description carefully enough. This is a very tight shirt. I got this in a large and I'm pretty big guy, 6'4", 210, average build and this shirt was super unflattering on me. If you are a slim/ripped dude, this might be the perfect shirt, but this just wasn't going to happen for me. I tried it on and immediately knew it wouldn't work. I have some Icebreaker Tech T Lites in a Large and they fit great and are much more flattering to those of us with dad bods. I could have tried this in XL and it might have worked better but I'm going to stick with the Tech T Lites from Icebreaker and the Smartwool 150 shirts because I like the fit of those better.

The review will be more helpful if I describe what I was looking for, and then how the shirt compares. I was looking for a tight fitting (but not restrictive) AND longer length merino t shirt for high output winter activities. This is to be worn by itself on warmer days, or under a Black Diamond Coefficient fleece on colder days. The fleece is quite form fitting, and so it was key that the shirt was too, to prevent any awkward material bunching. I also wanted a longer length to tuck in, to keep heat in and keep snow out. The shirt is perfect in every aspect. I bought 6 merino shirts to try them all on and this was the one I kept. The merino is warm and soft, not itchy at all. The shirt fits perfectly (for me) in a large, and I am 6'5 and weigh about 200 pounds. This same shirt in an XL, fits very much like a "daily" t shirt, although maybe a bit more form fitting. The extra length is great for taller guys. Also worth noting is the power or the natural anti funk of merino wool. Ill spare you the details but we'll just say that after multiple uses with lots of sweating involved this shirt does not smell AT ALL! The same cannot be said for my synthetic base layers...

Dirty shirt

Shirts themselves are amazing. Light. Breathable. Great fit (snug but not clingy). However, one of the two shirts that I ordered arrived with a stain on the neck, so docking a star for that.

This product (as most of Icebreaker products) doesn't really need any more praise, but I couldn't resist. This is definitely my favourite t-shirt -- not just base layer. Some practical info that people might actually find useful: All my clothing is normally size L with European brands, but with the US ones, it's always a hit or miss when I order online as it's always between M and L, and neither works. Icebreaker has a really nice 42 chest L, which hits the sweet spot. For this struggling to fit into M and not fall out of L -- look no further. PS: I also have longsleeve version of this and the following I can say about both of them It's super lightweight, yet amazingly warm. I'm currently in Russia and winters are harsh, but this ultra thin base layer and simple fleece hoodie underneath a wind/rain shell keep me nice and toasty while walking in the woods on photo trips at -10C. I was blown away by the warmth and moisture wicking it provides. (It does get warm and steamy when I scramble up a hill through a sea of powder, but this shirt is incredibly good at dealing with moisture and temperature regulation).

This is my second 150-wt Anatomica T-shirt, and I completely love the style, fit, and comfort this shirt provides. I'm a lanky 6', 5", 220 lbs, and the XL fits me perfectly - trim without being constrictive in any way. (The XL fits like a "normal" Large in most US brands). These have become my go-to shirts for mountain biking, backpacking, hiking, and just wearing around town. If you're long and lean, you definitely need to try one of these on. It's comfort/temp range is impressive--I use it as my base layer in the winter, but it performs just as well in 95 degree heat. The 150-wt Anatomica is much more versatile than their 200-wt shirts, and they fit trimmer/slimmer than the Aero or Tech T lite shirts. When these are on sale, buy a couple!

Used Smartwool under ware for 18+ days in Spain, 13 on the Camino France, clocking in 200 miles. These felt better given the small amount of lycra. Did not cling to my body when I took a little 12 mile walk around Sacramento in 85 degree weather.

The description is slim fit and in case you haven't worn "BodyFit" or Anatomica, you should know that it is body-fitting tight. I ordered a size up since I want to wear it more casually, as well. I wear a LARGE in Tech T Lite and other casual Icebreaker shirts, but I ordered an XL in this shirt and it fits great. If you want it primarily for working out or layering in the cold, order your normal size.

See my review of the icebreaker tank top. This shirt is every bit just as good, except that it has sleeves. Thus, I do not use it for my high output activities during the spring, but instead use it as a baselayer for skiing during the winter and early spring. Also, this shirt is freaking stylin, I wear it around town all the time because it is just soo comfortable and looks good. Lastly, the fit is great.

Anatomica SS

Super lightweight and good for all seasons. I've worn it as an undershirt which is perfect for chilly bike rides to school. It's quite slim and form fitting which makes it good for layering. When you want a light layer but don't want a full long sleeve baselayer, this would be a good option. I haven't had the chance to wear it much in the warmer seasons but it would be a good shirt for activities like trail running. Merino wool keeps you warm when its chilly, but also wicks moisture and breathes very well too. I'm 6'2" 175 (on a good day) and Large fits pretty well for me. It was a bit longer than I was expecting (not a bad thing), and sleeves are pretty short.
