Why We Like The HOKA Speedgoat Mid 5 GTX Trail Running Shoe

Whether it's a long run or a recovery hike on our plan, we're lacing into the HOKA Speedgoat Mid 5 GTX Trail Running Shoe. The compression-molded EVA platform gives our strikes long-lasting shock absorption, while the raised collar, late-stage meta-rocker, and multi-directional lugs all work together to stabilize our strides. As we bound atop mud and through water crossings, the breezy GORE-TEX membrane shuts out the muck and the wet to keep our feet comfortably dry from first mile to last.

Little toe growing a little toe

I own three pairs of Hoka. The Clifton 9 are . The Speedgoat 5 Mid GX and also the Challenger 7 GTX don't provide me with enough toe room. Never ran in a wide but now considering? They are also very hard around the toe area, like a hard plastic. Maybe it's the GTX feature? Got me considering going back to Saucony

Comfortable but not durable

In less than six months already have hole in side of shoe. The other day had a stick puncture the bottom. Now as far as comfort they are great. I walk all day for my job. Would think after paying so much they would last more than six months. Not sure if want to pay the big price if durability is not there. This was suppose to be like a trail shoe or hiking shoe. Can't see that since I just walk in city neighborhoods!

Not as good as I hoped

I use them for climbing on and around three waterfalls that I have to maintain at a Resort. The worst thing is they are very hard to lace up and take off, It takes me three times longer to lace them than my other shoes. They look great.

Shoes Feels Like Jell-O - Not what I was expecting

These shoes are way too soft and feel very spongy. They aren't robust enough for "Goating" or moderate hiking/running. I don't know who designed the shoe's tongue, but its absolutely TERRIBLE. Getting into and out of these shoes are a nightmare. The shoestring holes should have metal eyelets to allow easier tightening and shoestring loosening. They are however, very nice for everyday walking on concrete, asphalt, and gravel. I wouldn't use these shoes on moderate or significant unimproved trails because they feel like Jell-O!

Best light boot I've ever had

I don't consider these boots more like hightops shoes. With that said they are the best shoes I've found to train for a ultra marathon. I spent a good amount of time and money trying others all I'm going to say is that 15 miles in my feet feel great the socks I bought with them from hoka are terrible but my set up is hoka gtx mid and injini ultras socks.

Great Boot, PLEASE MAKE A BREEZE NON-GTX VERSION!

Great boots for everyday walking and also hiking. A little firmer than the last gray/black generation, but appreciate the mostly black color option for wearing at work. PLEASE MAKE A BREEZE, MORE VENTILATED (NON-GORE TEX) VERSION LIKE THE ANACAPA!

This is my third pair of high tops

This is my third pair of high tops. I've also bought a pair of tennis shoes. I have been very happy with my purchases. I will continue wearing Hoka and let everyone know how they feel and last.

I would not buy this product again

Update on last comment. I know Hoka will make this right, they always do. I'm trading this Hoka for another Hoka and I continue to encourage people to buy the brand. Regarding this specific boot. I needed this boot more than the shoe I traded it in for. After the last review, I tried one more hike wearing them, a simple woods 15 mile out-n-back and found another huge problem. There is no loop for the lace on the tongue and what's worse is, the tongue is ridiculously paper thin. I think the affected area of the foot is called the (muscle extensors), where your ankle and top of the foot come together, exactly where the laces are, well that tendon area will get raw on any type of long distance hikes. I ended up finishing that hike not using the last three loops and folded the paper tongue down. It's critical to do a shake down of any new shoe prior to a thru hike.

Perfect Shoe!

I bought this for my time in the mountains where I was for about three months and it was perfect for the rough terrain! I didn't feel my foot was completely safe when it came to running through forest hazards like bushes or thorn bushes otherwise I never slipped or felt unsafe in the friction! Shoelaces could be a little longer.

Great boots

This was a gift for my son. (I love mine) He told me that they are the most comfortable hiking boots he has ever had and also appreciates the waterproof bootie.
