The Speedgoat 5 is at home bounding atop root- and rock-riddled singletrack. Now a half ounce lighter, this racer has picked up the pace while still padding our strikes and energizing our toe offs. The sandwich mesh upper keeps our feet breathing easy, while the aggressive lugs solidify our footing as we charge up steeps, around switchbacks, and back down to the valley floor.

Bad glue, treads came loose in under 20 miles
I read rave reviews about the speed goat line and bought a pair of the 5s on sale once the 6 came out. I put less than 20miles on them and the tread came loose and glue failed. Customer service is 5***** and replacements were in my house in less than a week. I'm giving this another chance since I'm assuming it was old glue since it was an old model but it was still a disappointing experience. Hopefully, round 2 will last as long as the reviews have suggested

So close to being really good...
This is a tough review to write - because I really struggle to find shoes that I really like, and I thought I really liked these... I purchased the SG5s in wide, after trying over a dozen of other pairs of shoes (coming previously from using Brooks for 3 years that I got along with well - but they changed the fit). The SG5s fit me pretty well, and I liked the overall feel and comfort out of the box. I trail run in the mountains of WY about 8-20mi and 4000-7500ft vert on average per week for training, and go on adventure runs between 10mi and 25mi with 5000-10000 total vert periodically throughout the year. Right away, the stack and drop were more than I was used to, but I was enjoying the comfort on short walks to break them in... I thought I could adapt to them, but it is proving to be more challenging than I hoped. Shoes feel clunky and much less precise on trail than other shoes I've tried - I thought these would feel closer to a responsive shoe than plush - but I have to say these feel pretty plush in my opinion. The midsole is very, very soft and pliable. On technical descents, I've never felt more unstable. Scree and loose, dry dirt/pebbles feel like ball bearings and as you try to pressure different parts of your foot, the soft foam just gives way in a manner that is not confidence inspiring. I lost my footing on a 20mi summit day this past weekend more times and in more significant ways, than I had in the past 3 years with Brooks Catamount. The foam is also not durable - I've got 45ish miles on these shoes and the foam both underfoot and on the midsole sides are torn to shreds. Again, I've put hundreds of miles on Salomons and Brooks shoes, on the same type of rock, and they don't look like these SG5s do now. I'm not super pumped about the durability of these. Lastly, the top of the tongue that sits closest to your ankle to provide heel hold is so thin and unpadded - the laces dig into to top of my foot and cause pain...

Fits and feels well
Love the shoe's fit and cushion feeling whether walking or jogging. I put my own inserts in the shoes removing he factory inserts and making the ride even better! Will buy another pair in the future as Hoka continues to develop newer and better shoe design and comfort.

Makes me run faster.
Second pair of Speed Goat 5. Fits like a glove. Although they are not a pair of P.F. flyers which guarantee, "A kid to run faster and jump higher." They are great trail running shoes.

Not Comfortable For Me.
The looks and reputation of HOKAs are first rate. I received the SPEEDGOAT 5s and tried them on - wearing them in the house on our carpeting. They never felt comfortable in that they slipped around on my feet making me unsure of my footing while wearing them; I tried moving the top laces to the rearmost hole and that didn't solve my problem, so I had to return them.

Work fine on rocky trails
These work great on rougher trails with rocks and steep sections. However, these fit a little tighter than my Bondi 8 shoes in the same size. Therefore, I wear lighter hiking socks.

Not accurate sizing and can't refund
Nowhere in checkout did it say that you cannot refund if using afterpay, I only found out after I tried to do a return that you can ONLY exchange for the same style, color, and width just different size. So if their size 15 doesn't fit you, good luck!

Love the shoe but the available colorways are ridiculous
Been in these since the Speedgoat 3. Technically this shoe is great - comfortable fit, dead-on sizing, spectacular traction. They are actually a great all-day wear for the support and comfort. However... there's usually been a more toned down color available for us boring people... but the current selection is a complete turn-off. Even if you don't mind looking like a peacock, the combinations are gross and even with all the versions they somehow come off as a repetitive series of puke green, psycho-yellow, and clashing pinks. Can't tell 'em apart. C'mon Hoka you guys are in a rut. Do I have to wait and hope for the Speadgoat 6? Deducted one star because I'm embarrassed to be seen in them.

Reviewing For Husband
His comments: "I love these shoes. They take the weight off this knee" his knee is due for replacement in 6 weeks - bone on bone now. I asked him if he liked the grip of the sole. He said "yes, very good traction" Bottom line - highly recommend and would buy again.
