Beautiful reel
I just got back from fishing the Henry’s Fork used my new Ultradisc UDLA Fly Reel for the first time and the drag is perfect in a large Harper allows for a quick pick up a line. I’m so happy with it I bought 2 more.

Beautifully engineered reel
My first purchase of a Hardy reel, (UDLA 7000) bought to house a new Rio WF8 Floater. My usual reels are Waterworks SLA or Nautilus. I must say this reel definitely gives the Waterworks a run for it's money, both on price price point and quality, looking forward to the new season to use it in anger properly.

Very nice reel for the price
The reel is very well constructed and the drag is quite nice. There are two issues I've had that are preventing a 5 star rating. The first is that, while the drag is really nice and I love the positive clicks when changes are made, the interval between each click is too great. I hooked into a large brown trout in heavy current and attempted to make an on-the-fly adjustment, user error I turned the know the wrong direction but the reel went from not quite enough drag to almost no drag with one click. I panicked a bit and turned the knob the correct direction, but went 3 clicks instead of 2 and the drag clamped down hard and the fish could no longer pull line. Fearing for my 6x tippet I finally managed to get one click back and got the amount of drag I was initially looking for. I would have preferred to have a little more graduation between clicks instead of going from no useful drag to too much drag in 4 clicks. The second issue, admittedly might be me not being a great euro nymph caster, but the half cage has these little prongs that have caught my fly line a number of times in the previous few days of use. I've included a picture of this issue. All that being said, the reel seems quite tough, very attractive, a nice weight, and a good value.

the Lightweight advantage of the reel,
I just read the only other review about the UDLA reel and it sounds more like operator error than reel function. I’ve fished this reel since it was introduced in various situations and I really enjoy the simplicity and weight of this reel, the drag knob is large and easy to adjust and a definitive click between settings. The weight and large arbor are the most noticeable features, this translates to quick line retrieval and the ability to fish longer because of its weight. Ive been nothing but pleased with it’s performance.
