Ergonomic comfort and convenient gear access for your week in the wild.
Offering both ergonomic comfort for weeklong backpacking treks and the convenience of easy access to gear, the Granite Gear Nimbus Trace Access 70 Backpack will make your life off the beaten path more enjoyable. The backpack's anatomically-formed maple framesheet mirrors the natural curvature of your back, and is lighter while more longitudinally rigid than Granite Gear's previous framesheet designs, so you get more solid support with less weight. The back panel features a ventilating padded design that keeps air moving between the backpack and your back for breathable comfort. The dual-density foam hip-belt provides beefy support at the hips where the backpack channels the majority of the load weight, and the cushy padded shoulder straps bear some of the weight burden without causing discomfort. The sternum strap keeps the backpack from moving side to side, while side compression straps keep items inside from shifting around so you stay balanced on tricky rock-laden traverses.
The Nimbus Trace Access 70 holds up to 60 pounds of gear, and the large main compartment, stretch front and side pockets, zippered side pockets, and a lid pocket provide plenty of spots to stash and organize your stuff. Thanks to a front access panel, you'll be able to quickly get to items in the middle or bottom of the pack without having to dig down or take everything else out first. Carry along tools and carabiners on the easy-access front tool loops, and keep your hydration reservoir in the dedicated internal sleeve with a drinking tube port. The backpack's rugged nylon fabric will get you through many blissful trips while you tune out civilization for the week.

- Q & A
I forget I'm wearing it
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I am amazed at how comfortable this pack is. I load it up and it is heavy to lift, but once on my back and properly adjusted (important!!!), the weight almost disappears.
I did have to adjust the shoulder straps down a notch. I think proper fitting for this pack is essential. I did not experience the issue the other reviewer had once I adjusted the straps.
If I had any complaint, a few more internal pockets would be nice (I like to stick my car keys in a zippered pocket and never open that pocket on a trip).
Wanted to like this pack.
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
This is a very good looking and versatile pack. I wanted to like it, but the fit is awkward and it doesn't carry a load very well. The top lid pocket opening from the back is also awkward.
I tried it on and noticed that the load lifters don't go high enough above the shoulder straps to balance the load over your hips. Instead, it pulls back on your shoulders or the sternum strap. Another thing is that because the hip belt only connects to the frame sheet in one place, all the weight pushes down in that one spot instead of across the hip belt. Effectivley, the weight is being carried on top of your butt instead of on the shelf made by your hips.
If Granite Gear updates this suspension to something like the Refit AC in the Lusten series, it could be a home run. This pack is made of great materials but the fit/comfort is a little disappointing for the price tag. Due to the odd fit and weight distribution I did not use it and sent it back.
