Cute but not great

Purchased multiples of this product. Never had much success. Ended tossing some out. What a waste. Batteries cannot be changed. Brand new, used, one not working at all.

Well, they work, real world need.

Had power loss here in the Rio Grande Valley after 80 mph winds. Power went out for 3 days. Got out my Crush lights and used them at night when I needed them. Worked great. No problems. Not sure how long they would last, but had my Yeti 400 to charge them. Pretty good portable lights.

Crush Light makes a very cold night go easy.

Here in Massachusetts we lost power for about 12 hours last night to sun rise, and last night being the coldest night we had in years; -10F real temperature / -25F factoring in the windchill. Mom and Dad sat and watched our 2 teenagers play Chess for hours with nothing but a GoalZero Crush Light to keep them occupied. It could have been a potentially nightmare for Mom and Dad, but for 1 GoalZero Crush Light.

Shelf life of 2-3 years then starts disintegrating

These were part of our "Hurricane" backpack for a couple years, but I realized the plastic/rubber was starting to break down and get tacky...it didn't take long for the rubber accordion area to start breaking and cracking at the folds. This is good while it lasts, but they're fairly disposable after a few years. Also notice the frosting of the solar area. I bought two of these and this is the last one. Needs to be tossed now, but the first one was tossed about 6 months ago since it just stopped working all together.

Wonderful light

This device combines modern technology, materials and function in a wonderful way. Love the 35-hour low-light setting for my 3am coffee in the tent. Perfect amount of light for that time of morning. Well done to the designers and engineers. Thank you

Useless off grid

It sat on my dashboard all day and gave me10 minutes of light at the lowest level. I tried this on a few occasions with the same result. If I had power to charge it, I wouldn't need a solar lanter. I won't waste my money on another one.

unreliable lantern (poor solar charging)

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I purchased this a while back, charged it at home and took it camping. Day 1 it worked great - everyone was impressed. Next day, it sat in the sun all day, but that evening the light lasted 30 minutes. Using a battery back-up, it charged and stayed on for longer. But basically the solar charging is very poor. Back Country was amazing, I informed them of the issue and they sent me another unit. That unit was defective and worse than the first unit. I spent a week charging and testing both units at home and neither really worked well (neither of them held a long charge). They would stay lit for 30 minutes or less. I have returned both units. Note: I ended up purchasing Goal Zero mini lanterns, which use AAA batteries - and they work great.
