When you look around and notice not one, but several fellow Lycra lovers whizzing by you in Giro’s Empire ACC’s, you find yourself in a tough spot. Do you maintain your individuality, or relent and accept that the ACC is incredibly popular for too many reasons to list? It might be the best cycling shoe on the market right now, depending on who you are. Fortunately, you have a third option. Set yourself apart from the flock in the Empire ACC Limited Edition’s exclusive colorway, and reap the benefits of its impeccable fit in colors you won’t see at every stoplight.

Aside from the unexpected color palette, this version of the Empire ACC retains all of the features that made the original such a hit. Supple Evofiber uppers are secured by laces around your foot in an almost fully customizable shape, providing significantly more points of contact than shoes with just a few straps here and there. Regardless of foot shape, this highly moldable design provides a secure fit without the need for concessions in comfort. In addition, its uncompromisingly stiff Easton EC90 Carbon Sole delivers pro-level power transfer with a low stack height. Your feet stay close to the pedals so that every one of your hard-earned watts makes it to the pedals when you’re pushing up the last grueling meters of a climb.

  • A road racing shoe proven at cycling's biggest events
  • Unidirectional carbon fiber sole is efficient and light
  • Low stack height for better foot-to-pedal ergonomics
  • Synthetic, breathable uppers conform for comfortable security
  • Laces provide seven points of fit customization

Fits Like a Glove

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Great shoes. Fit like a glove - the fabric totally wraps around your feet. If you break the laces, you can get replacements from CC. Can't beat this price either.
On the negative side - the reflective coating on the toes scratches off if you don't put your foot flat when you stop at traffic lights. And if you commute in these shoes, you are going to go crazy with the extra time it takes to get these shoes on and off. I'm switching back to a Boa fastening system because I use these shoes to commute, and while comfortable, I probably spend an extra 10 minutes a day lacing these puppy's up

Still a fantastic shoe

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 45.5

I have had the Giro Empires before, and it remains my favorite cycling shoe to date. This colorway is just unbelievably sexy, I am a very big fan.

6 month review

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 43.5
  • Height: 5'10"
  • Weight: 150lbs

I've had these shoes for 6 months now, prob about 2,000 miles ridden. I like the fit of the shoes (I have a narrow foot) they fit pretty tight, like hard to get on I fine. But the fit is better than my old Giro Factors. The laces are stylish and you do get used to them. My only complaint is I found the reflective stuff started rubbing off after the first few rides. The shoes don't look very good as a result. So, if I were to buy again, I'd skip the reflective type.

Stylish, Lightweight, Reflective

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I've always liked the fit of Giro shoes, and these take it to a new level with the lacing. It takes a little getting used to vs. Boa or straps since you can't adjust the laces while riding on the bike. They definitely look great and stand out, and as an added big bonus the matte gray material turns into an incredibly bright reflective material for when you have to race the sunset home.

lace and leather

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I wasn't sure about the laces, but I'm really glad I made that move. I contours to my feet exactly how I need them too. A little expandable tension band holds the laces. These are awesome eye catching shoes. I like the fact that they are reflective and stand out

Awesome shoes!

To be honest, when I first saw these, I thought the laces were a style gimmick. But I've got a full season in these and I am hooked! They're like a slipper with a carbon sole. Sooo comfy. The combo of laces and a super supple upper makes for shoes that hugs my foot. The laces make for a custom fit that Boas and straps could only dream of.

The sole is very stiff and the limited color is shim sham shamalama whiz bang.

Buy these and you won't be disappointed!

It should be noted that these shoes are highly reflective when light hits them as shown in the photos below.

Hey Sean, the toe box on the Giro Empire shoes run slightly more narrow than other brands I've found. While I haven't used any Shimano road shoes as a comparison, their mtb shoes always have a roomier toe box in my experience. Maybe try a 45.5 and 46 in these to see how they work out for you. Return shipping is only $7 no matter what you order so it's worth a shot.
