    A Rare Near-Perfect Fit

    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: EU 52

I have purchased a lot of different pants from a lot of different brands. Finding durable hiking pants that fit me is a serious pain. I went out on a whim and bought these on sale with a gift card. Ultimately, I spent no money. But I would be writing the same favorable review if I had.

Fit: I have a 36'' inseam. These pants are measured at exactly a 35.5'' inseam, if I recall correctly. For me, this means that they cover the length of my legs, bunch up just a tad over my foot, and don't slip under my heel. The crotch is not baggy like Carhartts, but it's not offensively tight like Mountain Khaki's "Broadway Fit" pants. The seat is a bit baggy with no base layers, but I did purchase a EU 52 when I would normally purchase a EU 50. I had heard from some that the waist size tends to run a bit small. It does. If I had bought the EU 50, I am not sure I would be comfortable in the waist area. Regardless, I now have room for layering.

The knees are articulated. The pants tend to move with you rather than hinder your movement. I can step up onto a large boulder and feel no pressure in the knees, crotch, or seat. It's a welcome relief as most pants don't offer this.

Function: There are so many pockets I don't what to do with them all. The pockets are well built, with snaps. They are deep and functional for whatever you decide to put in them. There is even one that can accommodate a map. As a shout out to the designer of these pants, there are no pockets in bad spots. Even if you are sitting in a vehicle, you can reach the pockets without twisting and turning.

The knees and seat have reinforced layers of fabric. The knees also accommodate knee pads. I appreciate this, as most hiking pants tend to wear out in these areas rather quickly.

The bottom of the pants have a hook to attach to your laces or a d-ring on your boots. And they cinch up around the cuff to act as a built-in pair of gators.

The dry quickly, despite having a bit of cotton in them. You can buy the "Greenland Wax" and wax the pants for a waterproof finish. I haven't done this, so I won't comment on its effectiveness. Though I will say they are water repellent and quick drying right out of the box.

Durability: I haven't beat these pants up yet, but I have been given no reason to question their ability to hold up to years of abuse. All of the stitching feels solid, the material is tough, yet light, and the articulated knees keep your body from putting tremendous friction on the fabric.

It seems to me that companies are increasingly developing products that look the part, but don't stand up to the abuse. Stitching is weak, the product shrinks in the wash, the fit was made for a cliche stocky midwesterner, etc. At this point, I feel that these pants do not follow the tendency of dumbing down outdoor equipment.

I am very happy with the (free) purchase.

In the photo you can see the length of the pants is just about perfect. What you can't see is that the pants have just the right amount of "bunch up" over my boot.

    A Rare Near-Perfect Fit

    Tough yet stylish

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: US 32

A heavy duty trouser designed for trekking and general outdoor use. These pants are tough, well thought out and reliable in whatever conditions mother nature throws at you. The fabric, Fjallraven’s legendary G-1000 fabric, is strong and well built. Like a Toyota truck, these pants are made to last the test of time. These trousers have plenty of pockets for anything you might need on the trail. With reinforcements in the knees and seat you won’t have any trouble getting dirty rough while out in the wild.

Feel free to contact me with any questions about these pants.

    Nice pants but TOO SHORT!!

No way to choose "long" as an option from the website/app, making it necessary to call and place the order by phone. And the longs are only.... maybe a 34" inseam. Sigh. The waist is accurate. I'm a 6' tall girl and have resigned to wearing men's pants. On the plus side the pants are very well made.

      Vidda Pro Long

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 34 US/50 EU

Bought a pair of Sitka Timberline pants in 34 long for a backpack hunt and they were way too short for me (I wear a 36 inseam). I returned them and decided to give these a whirl. As someone else had mentioned in their review, it's rare to buy something blind and be happy with the purchase but these pants are fantastic. They fit as if they were tailored for me and seem to be really well constructed. I like that they don't have back pockets because if you're sitting on your can glassing for hours the extra seams from pockets can get uncomfortable. I never write reviews but it's so hard to find any pants that fit a 36 inseam, much less hunting clothes. I'm very impressed and definitely recommend them to my lanky brethren!

Great service from Back Country. Pants fit well. Made well. Very comfortable. They are a little long on me, but I usually blouce my pant legs due to Deer Ticks/ Lymes Disease here in the Northeast. I tend to be hard on my gear by nature. Time will tell how well they wear and last. I liked the 1st pair enough to order another.

Finally a long size that is long enough for a tall dude. Purchased for Hunting and hiking Northern Az. Awesome pant wore for 5 days and dozens of miles. Plenty of pockets for gear and snaps for preferred fit at ankles. Knee high wet grass was no match for these pants as they stayed dry with the wax like finish they come with. Reinforced in all the right places only negative for Hunting the material is not the quietest.

      Collegiate Peaks Perfect Match

      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: US 34

Spent 4.5 days in these pants hiking around Collegiate Peaks in CO, to include one summit of Mt. Belford! Very sturdy and extremely comfortable pants for my first time hiking the peaks. When the wind was blowing and the degrees were in the teens, it didn't matter, even the small snow flurries were no match for these pants! Under them I wore a pair of compression pants and knee braces, the pants allowed for this with absolutely no hang-ups or regrets. The trip was from Oct 13-19, 2015, thank you to "No Barriers Warriors Foundation" for the hike of a lifetime!
This winter I plan to take them into some more severe weather in the Sierra Nevada's, to include skydiving into the wilderness to step up the adventure scale just a bit...looks like I'm going to need another pair or so, just because! Also received a lot of complements from other hikers! Feels good when you make a blind purchase and score big time!!

      Most comfy pants ever...

I've only used these a few times and I can't say I've only used them for some light hikes, but they've quickly become a pant I'm looking for an excuse to wear...
PROS: Fit is not too baggy and not too loose, pockets galore, reinforced in the right places and comfort - almost feel like a light fleece, whereas I thought they'd be stiff.
CONS: Pockets galore, too many places to put stuff

      Sad for July and August

Fantastic trek pants--hike, climb, bike, whatever. I hate the late summer because they are just a little too heavy weight for 90 degrees and high humidity.
Pros: Love the adjustable snap straps at the ankles, this allows a custom fit against shoes or hiking boots. The extra protection panels on the rear and knees are great. The pocket arrangement is novel (asymmetric?) though very effective.
These pants have a great rugged look, and I've received a ton of complements on them. They have a sort of elite military look to them, but are even presentable with a dress shirt for some casual occasions.
Cons: I think Fjallraven makes a lighter version, this may fix my late summer withdrawals. Note the 20 oz weight, that's about right on the Vidda Pro.
Disclosure: I have not thoroughly tested the water resistant fabric, though I did a splash test and it performed pretty well. Got the Greenland wax for some serious hiking this fall.
Last, fit: I'm 6'2", 180 lbs, 33" waist and 34" inseam. Size 50 fits well, with a little extra room in the waist (it's a true 34", and a nice long ineam. With the ankle straps you want plenty of length and the legs won't hang over the back of your shoes.

      Best. Adventure. Pants. Ever.

Preparing for a two-week, early-summer adventure in Iceland this year, I felt that my thin nylon zip-offs were not going to be up to the challenges of fire & ice. Searching the universe of hiking pants for something tougher but also slim and long enough to cover my strangely lean and tall hide, I chatted online with one of Backcountry's gear divas. In about 5 minutes, we came up with the Fjallraven G1000 which comes in
