Cold weather hardy.
New England: navigating its unruly weather is like enduring an afternoon spot of tea on the Arctic Tundra, which is why the residents of Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Connecticut have a propensity to don parkas much like the Fjallraven Men's Kyl Parka. Because if there's one thing to take from these cold weather hardy citizens, it's to expect the unexpected from Old Man Winter. The Kyl Parka is crafted with the iconic Fjallraven G-1000 Original waterproof exterior that sheds water like nobody's business and keeps wayward wind at bay while the goose down insulation and fleece lined interior provides furnace-like fervor on those extra nippy days. Additionally, the three-way adjustable hood seals in warmth and also comes with detachable fur. The multiple pockets hold your phone, wallet, gloves, and multiplicity of cough drops close, so you don't have to go digging around in your bag for them.

I live in the south, but travel up north quite a bit. For years i’ve resisted buying a good winter coat because i have no use for it most times, but i finally decided to bite the bullet. After much research, i chose this jacket. Waterproof, wind proof, and a furry hood were my main requirements. I also wanted a parka so when i sit down, my booty stays warm and dry.
I spent two weeks in sub freezing temperatures recently, even during the Bomb Cyclone... and man did this jacket earn its keep! I actually used it snow mobiling in -6* temps in Northen New Hampshire and never felt an ounce of cold! VERY WARM, very dry, and quite comfy. My kids said it’s a ‘cool’ jacket too, so i suppose that qualifies for style points!
It has many pockets, so i could load up and carry with me whatever i needed for the dayâ’s adventures.
If i had to speak a negative, the jacket is a bit heavy in weight. I think it weighs 4 pounds, but it never seemed an issue.
The one thing that does annoy me though, is the jacket zips ‘backwards’... i think this may be a european design (jacket manufacturer is in Finland). It just takes a little
concentration to make it work.
Overall, i would highly recommend this jacket!
How is the insulation in the sleeves? I have a couple of even more expensive parkas that get cold around the elbow and above. Warm everywhere else but noticeably cold at the front elbows.
Does the Kyl Parka have a waist draw cord?
What is the insulation value of the goose down?
Thank you, I'm very keen to know asap.
This parka does not have a waist drawcord but it does have a drawcord at the hem - which is even better at keeping the cold out.
The fill power of the down is 500 cuin (CUIN stands for cubic inches per ounce and indicates how much volume (cubic inches) is filled by one ounce (27.3 grams) of down. For simplicity sake, we can say that the higher the CUIN value of a jacket, the better it insulates).
It also features a double zipper, removable fur hood, fleece lined chest pockets, and several interior pockets.
