Near perfect but the hood broke the deal

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Size Bought:
Large
Height:
5' 11"
Weight:
195

I love this jacket. It's comfortable, warm, durable, waterproof. It's hefty but not bulky and fits very well. But.. I returned mine because of the hood. It's excessively large. Even while wearing a thick beanie, I could freely turn my neck from side to side inside the hood. Moreover, Even the amphitheatre size wouldn't bother me if there was some way to manage it with the wind, but with every gust my head was uncovered yet again. Why Fjallraven could you not have added a drawstring to this? Literally on every other FR jacket, there's a drawstring for the hood. This is such a big design flaw that I'm shocked it was a miss on this manufacturer. I am genuinely sad to have to return this jacket. It's almost perfect, but for 350 dollars, the hood was a deal breaker.

The perfect combination of warmth and weight.

I find the Greenland to be the perfect weight, I usually find winter jackets to be too warm and heavy but the Greenland winter for me the perfect combination, the size is a great fit (I did use the size guide and it was very accurate) and there’s enough room to layer up if needed, yet it doesn’t look too large if I only have one layer underneath. As usual from Fjallraven product quality is fantastic and I’m very happy with the coat.

Excellent Coat, a Couple Minor Upgrades Needed

I bought this as an everyday winter coat for the notoriously windy and cold Chicago winters. I've only used it a few times, but the canvas kept me dry on an especially chilly, rainy day. I would suggest going a size up from what you would normally buy to allow yourself the ability to layer underneath for colder days. In my estimation, the fleece is better than the down version because of its wicking properties and thermoregulation that you don't get with down. It can be worn w/ just a t-shirt on milder days without causing you to sweat. The pockets are large and easy to access w/ the snap buttons, and I love the one on the inside of the jacket to stash my wallet and iPhone. My only suggestion to improve this coat would be to move the two hand pockets to the diaphragm area and cant them as you see on a classic pea coat. Additionally, I would like to see some sort of hand warmer material used instead of the canvas. All in all, an excellent, stylish coat that I look forward to using for many years to come.

Please please please sort the hood out

I have 3 fjallraven winter coats currently in use for various things. All fantastic. I bought this for work commute as they dont do many suitable ones in black. Not too warm so good fir hopping on snd of the train. But had to send this one back as the hood is useless. Hood sits too tall and floppy with no adjustment. Eithe falls over your eyes or the cold wind fills it like a sail. Adjustment cords would make this a good jacket. And adjustable and removable hood would make this a superb jacket

Looks great

Im 6’ 250lbs and have a muscular build. I wear XL which is perfect fit. Not too snug. Only complaint I have is because the material is so stiff the zipper separates if I don't snap the bottom button or unzip the lower half to allow it to spread over my lap when I sit.

Lovely jacket let down by the fragile teddy liner

I am a big fan of this jacket and wear it most days when cold outside. I love the style and all the pockets. Great for keeping things handy. I only have two suggestions: 1) The hood does not have an adjustment strap so when there is wind it might get blown of your head. 2) I like the teddy lining, but it is fragile and reduces the life expectancy of the jacket to a few years. Especially around the waist and shoulders. I hope the lining can be replaced as otherwise the jacket becomes useless and ends up in the bin.

Poor fit and flexibility

I bought this jacket for active fieldwork. While it was warm and comfy, it felt very small on me. There was very limited movement around the shoulders/armpits as well as the elbows. And when I had it buttoned up with the hood on, it felt restrictive on my neck. I sized up and it still wasn't comfortable. Plus the hood is giant and not adjustable. Fortunately I was able to exchange it for a Skogso jacket for a little extra money and am very happy now! The Skogso even has an adjustable hood and twice as many inside pockets. Definitely worth the price difference.

Wonderful but not perfect

After a few months of use I think I am ready to write a review of my Greenland Winter Jacket I have purchased. As always, the Fjallraven brand does not disappoint and there is no doubt that, in genral, I am happy with the product and above all with its fabulous G1000 fbric, but I have two important reasons to take two stars out of my rating and they are both aesthetic and functional ones.. First, I believe that an iconic garment like this (designed the same year I was born) should have absolute attention to even aesthetic details, for example, The zip is not at the top and an all-metal zip of higher quality such as the one used by another legendary English brand of outdoor garments like Barbour would be, a plus. I had already noticed this lack in the first Fijallraven garment I bought (a Skogso) and I repeat it in this case. Also on a functional level, in my opinion the cuffs are not completely adequate for a jacket that is defined as a winter one.. better perhaps if there was a knitted interior adherent to thr wrist. And right here, in the cuffs, the second star is lost. I hope this is only a "small shortcoming" of the garment I bought and not a generalized one and consists in the fact that the lining of the sleeves (whose quality is good but perhaps, probably deliberately, a little "vintage") it was not well sewn and came out of the sleeves .. I use the past tense because I could have it repaired easily .. In conclusion, I am happy with the purchase and I will remain a loyal customer of Fjallraven, but I believe that a top brand like this should pay attention to even these smallest details.

This will last a lifetime

Superb winter coat. I have this in night sky colourway. It’s very warm and comfy to wear. Fits true to size. For reference, I have a Vidda Pro jacket and an Ovik hoodie in the same size. Loads of pockets. Minor criticism is that the hood isn’t adjustable,
