    Traditional heritage.

The Fjallraven Men's Greenland Jacket is a classic outdoors jacket in hardwearing G-1000 fabric that gained popularity for mountaineering back in the days. In a traditional mountain heritage, the Greenland's waxed coating offers versatile protection from snowstorms or a summer shower. It comes fully prepared for winter's weather, and as soon as the wax wears down—like most modern water-resistant shells—you can reapply more wax in various thicknesses for each season—unlike most modern water-resistant shells.

    • Classic outdoor jacket with a traditional heritage
    • G-1000 double-layer fabric is highly durable
    • Waxed exterior adds versatile protection from the elements
    • Adjustment around hood secures coverage

Great ... but get a green one

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

    • Size Bought: L

Where i am presently, in western Canada, the snow is often wet, so if I am up a mountain I am generally wrapped up in goretex from Arcteryx or Norrona ... you know, kind of bombproof and wont leak. It rains here too. But when it is cold and dry there's nothing better than a polycotton shell, and this jacket is just great for that. The G1000 fabric isn't as windproof as gabardine or ventile, but it does breathe better. this jacket is robust and pockety and has a fine retro look, especially for us of a certain vintage. I had one in the 1980s, so was happy to see this appear again. I am XL and the L fits like an XL usually does. Roomy it is. All Fjallraven jackets are the same on me ... L works. 6' and 200lbs. Get the wax onto it, only not too much, otherwise it behaves like waxed cotton and gets all chilly and sweaty in the cold

    Know what you're getting into

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Small

This is a pretty cool jacket.

Personally, I enjoy it. Although, I wasn't exactly sure what I was getting into with it, which might've swayed my decision had I seen it in person.

    The Pros:

    - It's solid, built well and durable
    - Many pockets with ample space
    - Waxed coating for wind and water resistance

    The Cons:

    - The hood is a bit awkward; cone-like.
    - It's a boxier jacket
    - It runs big

I'm 5'8", athletic build. The small runs big on me. Plus, I'm a slimmer guy, so the boxy construction makes it look like I'm swimming in it if I'm not layering. But, that's kind of the point of this jacket.

It's just a shell. It's a thin jacket that has great wind and water resistance. How I've used this jacket outdoors is with layers.

In the winter months, I wear a number of layers to match what I'm doing. If I'm out hiking, I've got a sweater, a mid-layer and this thing. It works well to keep me warm enough when the wind comes through, and it's light enough to let me cool down on those sunny days.

    Overall, it's a versatile jacket.

But, despite the pros of this jacket, it's not my go-to and it's not what I wear on a daily basis.

Would I buy it again, definitely. But, I likely won't have too. This jacket seems like it's built for a lifetime. That's the reason I ultimately went with it. Fjallraven has that reputation, and so far it's been upheld.

Too Big, Sizing Chart is Off

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 160lbs

I bought this as a gift for my Fiance and this is what he said "I originally wanted this jacket as an outer layer during fall/warmer winter months. I used the sizing chart provided, however when I received the jacket, it was huge on me. I would recommend sizing down at

least one size smaller than what you usually would buy. Also, the canvas seems very thick and high quality however it doesn't seem to be the warmest jacket. I would only use this during warm Fall months for wind and rain coverage."

    Odd Shape for Sure

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

    • Size Bought: XL

The body fits well, with room for layering too. However, the arm holes and sleeves are giant. I know this item is cut with a looser cut than other Fjallraven items, but it's super over sized in the sleeves. I even tried a Large to size down like others recommended, but that fit awkwardly as the sleeves were a bit too short and the body ended up being too tight for comfort. Ultimately I returned the coat a little disappointed as the material and quality was great and I was really looking forward to owning the jacket.

    Versatile Shell

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 170lbs

Received my Greenland jacket today. Put it on the chase the dogs that got out. Obviously, I won't know for a few years how it is holding up, but here's what I can say: Sizing definitely runs a size large. I normally take a large and the medium is a good fit, trim enough to wear without layering, and large enough for a heavy sweater or fleece liner underneath. This is a shell only and can be worn by itself in milder weather, so if you want a jacket that's warm in colder weather without layering, the Greenland also comes in fleece lined and down versions. The proprietary G-1000 fabric is lightly infused with wax and should be water repellant, but would soak through in steady rain without more waxing. A major advantage of this jacket is that unlike some other waxed cloth jackets, it can be washed and rewaxed. The four outside pockets with snap flaps are big, even the breast pockets. The unlined hand warmer pockets are well positioned. The zipper is YKK brand, works smoothly and zips on the left, not on the right like most jackets marketed in the USA. It is made in Vietnam. None of the descriptions or reviews I have read mentioned the small inside zipper pocket that will just hold an iPhone 5. All closures are zipper or snap, no buttons to come off or hook and loop to stick to your knits. If you are looking for a well made, versatile shell with classic styling, the Greenland should have you covered.

    Sizing: order smaller

I wear medium in everything. I've ordered many fjallraven products and their sizing is all over the place while their quality is the cream of the crop. I went with small and I made the right decision. 5'9" 160 lbs and in Patagonia I wear medium 100% of the time! Glad I trusted my gut here.

I love this coat for times where a steezy ski coat or tech shell does not fit the bill. I ordered the M in black. I have worn it to fancy events and around town without any issues. Sometimes it comes camping and exploring with me, but G-1000 is not a light fabric. I have not applied the Greenland wax treatment yet, but it still keeps me protected from conditions when necessary. There are Euro trekkers who treat this as a technical shell, I just don't see it that way since I have a million of those with no labor intensive treatment necessary.

It will keep you looking stylish and last you the rest of your life realistically, at the sacrifice of weight and upfront cost.

As others have noted, it does run a little large. I am normally a L in jackets, but M had that perfect semi-loose fit I was looking for in terms of layering and movement.

      Hard Wearing!

This is a classic, takes a beating and looks great! Wax it, to make it more water and wind resistant.... definitely a lifetime purchase.

      For a life time

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

A classic for a reason. The greenland jacket is strong and durable and has kept me dry in the heavy fall rains in the Pacific Northwest. Great for layering. I know it'll last a lifetime.
