    The best gets better.

If you're looking for quicker engagement on your pedal stroke, DT Swiss offers a Star Ratchet Upgrade Kit to make its stock 18t hubs more responsive. The kit comes with a set of two of DT's signature ratchet rings, along with a pot of the grease that the manufacturer recommends for installation. Upgrade a set of 190 ceramic, 240, 350, or 440 freeride hubs with the kit to take advantage of quicker engagement for covering attacks on the road or popping across obstacles on the trail.

If you ride a DT Swiss hub, I would recommend purchasing this upgrade kit for better freehub engagement. It will really help for a better riding experience through the techy stuff.

    Easy Upgrade

Really easy to install and increases your pedaling engagement. It's very evident once you install it but you really feel the benefits it on uneven rocky climbing sections. Much easier to just but this part than upgrade an entire hub.

Easy upgrade that is well worth it.

This is an easy, affordable upgrade that is well worth it. The upgrade to 54T makes the engagement a lot quicker and makes climbing a lot more sure. Stop thinking about it and do it!

I upgrade my stock DT Swiss hub to the 54t ratchet after a few days riding with the stock 18t ratchet hubs because I was lacking engagement and l wanted a more responsive feel. The 54t ratchet upgrade was easy to install and preforms great; offering a responsive and quick engaging hub.

Any upgrade to make climbing easier is worth it. You'll notice the increased number of teeth on those techy climbs. You'll also notice this little guy makes you way louder so fellow riders will FINALLY respects your send.

One of the easiest and most cost-effective upgrades you can get out there for your DT swiss hubs!

I went with the 54t upgrade on the DT Swiss 350's -XM 481 wheelset that came stock on my Yeti 5.5 and very happy with the upgrade so far.

When I demo'd this bike earlier this year... the lack of engagement was my only worry. For right around $100 I was able to resolve that and come pretty close to the I9 Torch hubs I had on my last bike (Santa Cruz Hightower with Trail S I9 wheels). Although it isn't the same... I am very stoked with the additional engagement so far.

Hit me up if you have any questions on what upgrade kit might be the best for you and your wheelset.

    The perfect upgrade

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I recently got a pair of DT swiss wheels with an 18 tooth ratchet. Instantly I got this to upgrade. I went with the 36 tooth upgrade as it doubled the engagement from 20 degrees to 10 degrees, and works flawless. The kit literally takes 3 minutes to install. Pull off your free hub, remove the old springs and gears, drop the new ones in, and you're good to go. They include a small bottle of grease, which will last as long as you have the wheels. Servicing is a breeze, and the grease lasts quite a while between services. You can control the sounds from the hub by how much grease is applied. The more grease, the quieter hub. Once the grease breaks down and the hub starts to get a bit louder, I know it's a good time I think to clean and regrease.

    Sweet Upgrade!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I recently got a set of DT Swiss wheels with 350 hubs and it came with an 18t star ratchet. I knew after the first ride I needed an upgrade!

The swap to the 54t was a breeze. I didn't even need to take the cassette off. Just to make sure I was doing everything correctly I watched this video before hand.

DT Swiss gives you a tub of grease to use so I definitely have some left over to use mid summer when the ratchet needs to be re-greased .

Now that I have the 54t upgrade I can make it up those technical climbs! The hubs are a little bit louder than most stock hubs but not annoying loud by any means. I can feel a slight increase in drag versus the 18t but I would rather be able to pedal up the technical climbs!

I would recommend this upgrade to anyone!

    So. Much. Engagement!

Grabbed a 54t for my 240s, and love how they feel now. Makes technical climbs a breeze, as the power to your wheel becomes almost instantaneous. Quieter than an I9 hub, but definitely louder than the other options!

    54 tooth "Upgrade"...?

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Well, the swap was easy, but as always with a DT 240, ...where does all the water come from?? Anyhow, after getting all the water and grit out of the freehub and hub shell, the old 18 tooth ratchets were in perfect shape, so i just threw them in the toolbox and put in the new 54s. Well, first, it is tough to really grease something with SOOO many little corners, and points. So, I went as light as possible with the DT grease, but felt like it was tricky to get all of it without over-greasing. Well, I put it back together, and it is pretty awesome. I was a little scared of it being "draggy" but I cannot feel a difference. Also, it is not incredibly-annoyingly-loud and abnoxious like I9(Awefully annoying) or CK(less annoying) hubs. It does make the 240 louder, but not much. It is slightly louder, but with a super high frequency "Buzz." If you want silent, stick with the 18 tooth. If you want wicked engagement, get the 54 tooth. Its that simple. I love the engagement, and will grease it constantly to keep the noise down. Good upgrade...As long as the EXTREMELY TINY teeth hold up!!!
