Darn Tough OTC Padded Light Sock

    Familiarity:
I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Nice, well-made sock that I've used for skiing as well as snowboarding. The padding on the front of the shin is not very thick but just enough to mostly mitigate tenderness after a day of boarding/skiing. I have two pairs of these, I haven't used my other socks since getting these!

I gave these as a gift to the skiers in my life . Warm, soft, comfy. The padding is nice for a long day on the hill. I can't get over how new they look even after multiple washes and being beaten up! For less padding, opt for DarnTough ultralight sock

    Great Ski Sock

Love how tough and reliable Darn Tough socks are. They stay in place, manage moisture and keep you warm. This sock does have padding although I generally prefer Ultralight (no cushion) for ski boots, however, it does give a comfy feel.

    Excellent ski sock

    Familiarity:
    I've used it several times

I ordered a Large, my foot is a 10.5, it fits great. I've got longer legs, and surprisingly they do go all the way up to the bend of the knee. Very warm, great thickness. The padded section is just enough to remain comfortable while sending it. I always trust Darn Tough to make a great sock.

    Like a Rock

    Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Darn tough ski socks are very hard to wear out. Super durable and warm, and thin enough for most skiers. Darn Tough are made in Vermont and put an emphasis on quality. If you wear very snug boots, might want a thinner sock (Smartwool PhD), but, for me, these have held up better over the years and work great with my boots.

I have worn Smartwool for years and decided to give these a shot since they were a few bucks cheaper. I definitely think these are just as good. I have a size 10 foot and ordered size large, I would advise those on the fringe to size down. I will be ordering a medium next time.

This is a great, lightweight sock for a serious day of skiing. I am on the mountain anywhere from four to six days a week between teaching and free skiing big mountain terrain at Brighton, Utah. I wear these socks with the Salomon QST Pro 130 ski boot and find the fit between the two to be perfect and functional at all temperatures. Many of my other ski socks tend to bunch up around the toes while this is the only pair to not bunch up on me. It is commonly thought that a thick sock should take the place of warmth in a ski boot where you only really need to have the proper boot fit and a thin sock. Also if it helps, I ordered a Large and my foot size is a 12. Perfect sizing for me.

I definitely get a little OCD with my ski socks as I run my boots super small (damn racing background..) and needs something that will be thin warm and comfortable and the Darn Tough Merino Wool True Seamless Over-The-Calf Padded Ultra-Light Ski Socks ticks all those marks so far. The 64% merino wool, 33% nylon, 4% Lycra spandex weave allows the sock to balance warmth and comfort with stretchy fit and (with proper wash/drying) maintains shape while not being too firm. The thickness of the sock is just good enough for anyone who wants to run boots smaller than usual and I haven't had any rub points as of yet. I run a size 11 and the L fits me pretty well albeit a little bit narrow and the very top of the foot (damn bulbous big-toes). If you are looking for a great all around lightweight ski sock, give this a shot for sure.

I love these socks. I don't like to wear thick ski socks because they tend to cut off circulation with my ski boots but these are thin enough that they don't cause any such problems and are still super warm!

Where is the padding on this sock? Only in the shins, or also on the instep/arch/heel?

The padding is only on the shin. The rest of the sock is very lightweight.
