Yellow Vestibules & Footprints

Vestibules are best when you need covered storage for muddy boots, wet clothing, and packs outside the tent interior, and they attach to a tent’s front or side to create a dry entry zone. Footprints are ground-level barriers that protect the floor from moisture and punctures; some models combine both functions for rainy, muddy conditions.

Measure your tent’s length and width and match a footprint to those dims to avoid exposed seams or excess overhang that can channel water. For example, the SkyAir ULT Flat Footprint is 80 inches long with a 55‑inch head tapering to 30 inches at the foot, so always confirm compatibility with your specific tent model.

Look for coated ripstop nylon with reinforced edges and folded seams to resist tears and minimize water accumulation; many options use silicone or similar coatings. The SkyAir ULT example uses nylon 6,6 ripstop at a 30D weight with a silicone finish, and features like elastic cord tensioning help keep the piece positioned in wind.

Yes—integrated vestibule footprints and combined vestibule/footprint designs block ground moisture and debris, which helps reduce condensation against the tent fly. Models intended for damp environments, such as the Stone Glacier SkyAir ULT Flat Footprint, create a moisture barrier while keeping the shelter interior cleaner.

Weights vary a lot: manufactured ultralight options like the SkyAir ULT Flat Footprint weigh about 3 ounces, while DIY vestibule footprints might add roughly 30 grams. Consider the material and packed dimensions when judging pack volume, since coated ripstop nylon choices can be very compact for minimal added bulk.
