Toddler Girls' Black Baselayers

Lightweight synthetics are ideal for aerobic play and wet conditions because polyester blends wick moisture about 30% faster than cotton and dry quickly. For cold, low-movement days choose a midweight merino option rated for roughly 20–40°F for better insulation and natural odor resistance.

When sizing, aim for a close-to-skin fit with stretch so layers move with your child while still allowing a thin midlayer or jacket overtop; sizes typically run from 3 months to 5 years. Flatlock seams reduce chafing on active kids, so prioritize that construction when choosing a snug fit.

One-piece styles are great for high-mobility, frigid play because they keep heat in and reduce gaps at the waist; Burton Toddler Sets are an example built for snow performance. They also simplify dressing and often include features like thumbholes for easier glove layering.

Crew and high necks pack well under outer layers to block drafts, while raglan sleeves give extra shoulder freedom for reaching and play. Look for pieces like the Stio Kids' Basis Power Wool Crew that combine a high neckline with stretchy raglan construction for layering compatibility.

Merino wool offers natural odor resistance and even UPF 50+ sun protection in many midweight knits, which is why items like the REI Merino Midweight score highly for breathability. Synthetics, exemplified by the REI Lightweight Base Layer, dry very fast—often under 30 minutes—and are excellent when quick wicking and fast drying matter.
