Green Oversize

Start by matching capacity to trip length and transport method; 28–30-inch rollers, like models from Travelpro, work well for two-week trips. Consider hard-shell polycarbonate if you want structure or ballistic nylon for a bit more exterior flexibility and pockets.

Hard-shell polycarbonate gives solid impact resistance while staying relatively lightweight, and multi-layer ABS is a budget-friendly alternative. Fabric styles made from 1680D ballistic nylon resist abrasion and often weigh less when empty, so pick based on whether rigidity or expandability matters more to you.

Spinner wheels make maneuvering crowded terminals much easier because they rotate 360 degrees, but inline skate wheels usually track straighter and hold up better on rough surfaces. If you expect a lot of cobblestones or unpaved roads, inline wheels are typically the more durable choice.

Most oversize checked bags in the 28–32 inch range can accommodate clothing and gear for about 10–14 days depending on how you pack and whether you use compression cubes. Using packing cubes and rolling garments will increase usable volume more than simply choosing a larger case.

Pad fragile items with soft clothing and place them in the center of the bag away from corners; hard-shell cases from brands like Samsonite add an extra layer of protection. For high-value items such as optics or electronics, use removable foam inserts or padded cases to prevent shifting during transit.
