Fishing Neoprene Socks & Gloves

For moderate cold water, 2mm–3mm gloves or socks usually balance warmth and dexterity, while 5mm is better for very cold conditions. Both gloves and socks are offered in 1.5mm, 3mm, and 5mm options so you can match thickness to the water you’ll be in.

A proper fit sits snugly without pinching—gloves come in XS to XL and socks often span EU sizes like 35–46. Minimizing loose space reduces flushing and improves thermal performance, and extra-long cuffs that overlap a wetsuit help at the wrist interface.

Open-cell neoprene adheres directly to skin and cuts down on water circulation, which gives better warmth at the same thickness and is common in freediving. Double-lined options have a nylon outer layer for easier donning and greater durability, making them a good choice for general use.

Extra-long cuff patterns that overlap your wetsuit create a physical barrier to water entry, and wrist gaskets or smooth exterior bands add compression seals at that interface. Some engineered models like the Mares Polygon Black even use variable thickness—5mm at the wrist—to improve sealing while keeping the palm thin for feel.

Many models add reinforced materials such as Supratex under the foot or heel and hexagonal rubber or silicone dot grips on palms to resist wear and improve handling. Popular double-stretch neoprene choices like the Zoggs Neo 3 Gloves and Simms offerings are noted for durable construction and good grip patterns.
