Men's Orange Technical Shell Pants

If you spend a lot of time in wet, variable weather, a hardshell with Gore‑Tex or eVent is the safer pick because it’s fully waterproof. Softshells made from stretchy polyester/nylon favor breathability and mobility for high‑output days; models like the Raymer Pant strike a balance with a PeakProof 3L shell and 20,000mm/13,000g ratings.

Make sure pants have articulated knees for natural movement and enough room at the waist to layer underneath without binding. Check cuff designs—elastic powder cuffs or button systems plus a boot‑friendly hem help seal out snow, and small stretch panels (often 5–10% spandex in upper sections) improve comfort while climbing or skiing.

Waterproof ratings in millimeters indicate how well fabrics shed water, while breathability (g/m²) shows how much sweat vapor escapes. Premium hardshells often advertise around 20,000mm waterproofing paired with about 13,000g breathability, which balances staying dry in storms with reasonable moisture release during activity.

Thigh vents let you dump excess heat quickly during skinning or hard ascents without removing layers, and inner thigh vents are common on technical shells for that reason. Combining vents with a system of base layers and a mid layer lets you dial warmth and moisture management for changing exertion levels.

Seek fully seam‑sealed construction and abrasion‑resistant reinforcements like CORDURA kickpatches or oxford scuff guards at the lower leg to withstand skis and crampons. High‑end models such as the Norrona Lofoten Gore‑Tex add scuff guards, a waist zipper for modular connections, and elastic powder cuffs to protect seams and drifts during deep days.
