Men's Paddle Jackets

Splash jackets are lightweight 1-layer or casual tops that block wind, splashes, and light rain for warmer outings or emergencies, while dry tops use latex or neoprene necks and wrists plus a bungee waist to keep you dry in rough whitewater or coastal conditions. Consider a splash top for SUP or coastal paddling and a dry top for commercial guiding or serious whitewater where seals and taped seams matter.

Look for articulated arms, pre-curved elbows, and a relaxed torso so you can reach without bunching, and consider rand-free designs and adjustable hoods for paddle clearance. These jackets often include drop-tail hems and mesh vents that balance mobility with spray protection.

Gore-Tex models like the Kokatat Tempest are worth considering when you need higher waterproofing and durability, offering ratings up to 20,000mm and breathability near 15,000g/m²/24hr for hard use. They’re heavier than simple splash tops but excel when you face sustained spray and cold conditions.

Most paddle jackets use nylon or polyester shells with double-stitched seams and taped construction plus reinforced abrasion zones to resist rock scrapes and gear wear. Those tougher builds often weigh toward the 1–2 lb range and include PFC-free DWR finishes for longer-lasting performance.

Make sure sizing runs true and check hood compatibility and the waist tunnel so the jacket layers over dry pants or mates with a spray skirt without pulling up; drop-tail hems and high collars help keep spray out. Models like the Immersion Research Rival offer relaxed torsos and adjustable hems that make pant and skirt pairing easier.
