Learn more about Footwear Care
Start by knocking off loose dirt and using a soft boot brush or a vegetable brush to lift dried mud, then apply a nubuck/suede cleaner without conditioner to keep the nap intact. Work in small sections and blot with a damp cloth rather than soaking to protect glued areas and texture.
Choose a Gore-Tex–compatible spray for nubuck and a Hydrobloc cream or wax-based rub for full-grain leather to avoid clogging membrane pores. Hydrobloc spray and cream are formulated to boost water repellency while preserving breathability.
Conditioners are most useful before long-term storage or in dry climates to prevent leather from drying and cracking. Apply sparingly, test a small area first, and avoid over-conditioning so the boot’s support structure remains firm.
A dedicated suede kit such as the UGG Care Kit is ideal because it includes a bamboo brush, suede eraser, and a 4oz multi-conditioner designed for delicate nap. Those specialized tools and a protector help preserve texture without heavy, pore-clogging conditioning.
Always spot-test cleaners and conditioners on a small area to ensure adhesives aren’t softened, and avoid heavy soaking near the rand. Opt for silicone-free, Gore-Tex compatible products and steer clear of mink oil or industrial oils that can weaken dry-tanned hiking leather.
