Minimalist bib tight, maximum winter comfort.

The wind is howling outside, fuzzy blankets, movie marathons, and bowls of hot soup are doing their best to entice you to plant yourself on the couch for the afternoon, but you told yourself just weeks ago that this is the winter that you commit to it, this is the winter where you'll hit the pavement no matter the warnings coming from Old Man Winter. And with winter cycling kits hitting a more cost effective price point, with available mid-range options that will actually keep you warm and comfortable all day there's no reason not to. Castelli knows we want to get out to ride without spending a fortune, and they offer us their women's Meno Wind Bib Tight to make it possible.

The Meno bib tight, as Castelli puts it so eloquently, is perfection simplified. They feature a minimalist design, skipping over-the-top paneling, and opt for something that just fits well and does the job. The front of the leg is comprised of AirFlex Thermo fabric, Castelli's stretchiest windproof fabric available, to offer the range of motion you need on the bike, and a truly comfortable snug fit. The back features their Thermoflex Core2 fabric, which offers excellent moisture management, and intense warmth. Collectively these two fabrics come together to provide you with a comfortable fit capable of slicing through the wind, and designed to insulate you underneath so you can stay warm in temperatures from 39 to 50 degrees F.

When you're hammering out your base miles you'll still want supple support on your sit bones, so the Meno Wind bib tight is equipped with the KISS Air chamois. From top to bottom, designed with comfort in mind, the KISS Air features a seamless brushed microfiber top, sitting next to the skin providing a chafe free, soft and smooth fit to keep sensitive skin happy. An anatomical fit paired with tapering thickness, multi density foam offers maximum cushion where it's needed, and reduced bulk where it isn’t. The materials see an anti-odor treatment, helping to keep things clean if your riding is a bit too rough on your skin, or you're in the saddle for an immense number of miles.

Though these bibs do remain quite minimalist, a few additional features add to their value. The bib straps are made from lightweight mesh fabric that wicks away moisture with ease, and allows you to layer underneath with appropriate base layers for the day's weather, and off-set, flatlock seams to keep your shoulders smooth for minimal chafing or uncomfortable rub. A high waist supports your lower back and tummy for comfort in the riding position, made of the same stretchy AirFlex thermo as the front. Down the legs you'll find some small reflective accents that adorn the YKK Camlock ankle zippers, there to make it easier to dress and undress with bulky winter socks, winter cycling boots, and shoe covers. All seams are flatlock, helping to improve rider comfort on long rides.

    Sleek firm feel, cold-weather capability

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 160lbs

I'm writing this after returning my first pair, which developed a broken seam line after about 10 rides and got a little worse each time I rode. None of my other numerous Castelli items ever had such a problem so I assume it to be an anomaly - hope so! These tights, though, were warm and compressive and soft on the inside, nice to pull on when facing "cold" conditions: most rides I took were in 40-45-degree weather, but a couple were 30-ish. I was a little chilly in the latter rides, but I am colder than average. Kiss chamois is good, although a little wide-feeling and awkward when off the bike. These were the first bibs I've used, took getting used to, am still not a big fan, but am keeping an open mind since so many people love them. Great quality feeling in the zippers at the ankles and the several textiles used in the garment. I recommend these, the more so after I compared them on Castelli's website with the Sorpassos, and overall they rated just as good.

    Great winter bibs for ladies

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: small
    • Height: 5'6"

I've enjoyed wearing these winter cycling tights. Most recently, I took them for a spin in 35 degree foggy weather. The wind guard in the tights kept me very comfortable despite the less than warm temps. Plus the KISS Air chamois is a great balance of comfort without the bulk. I highly recommend.

    Excellent Cold-Weather Tights

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'8"

I am a big fan of Castelli products, and these tights don’t disappoint. Soft fleece inside, with excellent wind-stoppping capabilities on the front and wicking properties on the back. The chamois is very comfortable and supportive, the mesh straps hug the torso nicely, and the fit is as expected. I’ve ridden with them in mid-20’s temps and was perfectly warm. They also repel light precipitation. I highly recommend.
