Admit it: you're intrigued with the fat biking trend. Almost every time you're hanging around your local trails, you're greeted by a monstrous set of knobby tires being steered around a corner by a pretty excited looking rider. And those riders get to be out on the days the weather keeps you in too; rainstorms, snow squalls, and that dicey mix of leftover snow mixed with mud are a non-issue for fat bikes, and the same goes for sand and gravel. Known for exclusively making fat bikes, Borealis has believed in the fat movement since the days everyone thought it wouldn't last. Swap your trail runners for a 2016 Borealis Crestone X01 Complete Fat Bike already and get in on the fun.
Shaping the frame with carbon fiber, Borealis saves weight and adds rigidity to the Crestone compared to its aluminum builds. While snappy handling and race-ready weight are less important on fat bikes, you'll still appreciate pedaling less material around on extended trips and in sloppy conditions. Placing it in the realm of an XC race bike, Borealis gave the Crestone a relatively steep 70-degree head tube angle and shorter reach to keep you oriented in an upright position, ensuring the Crestone is up to the job of providing weekend-long riding comfort.
Whether loaded down with panniers or rolling unencumbered, the Crestone's burly 4.8in tires will happily tackle the range of conditions you throw at them with a plush, grippy response; aside from trails where suspension is a must, nearly nothing is off-limits to the Crestone. While you pedal, a shiny SRAM X01 drivetrain provides consistent shifting commensurate with a frame of this level, while SRAM hydraulic disc brakes provide stopping power when you need to slow down.
